A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor of Laura Bell Bundy

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Laura Bell Bundy. WHEREAS, Laura Bell Bundy is a proud native of Lexington, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, at the age of nine, Laura Bell Bundy debuted in Radio City Hall's Christmas Spectacular, and an extraordinary career was born; and WHEREAS, a celebrated performer on both the stage and screen, Laura Bell Bundy has played roles in Ruthless: The Musical, Hairspray, Legally Blonde: The Musical, and as Glinda the Good Witch in the smash hit Wicked. She has also performed on television and in movies, appearing in such acclaimed television shows and films as Hart of Dixie, Cold Case, Veronica Mars, How I Met Your Mother, Jumanji, and Dream Girls; and WHEREAS, with hard work, perseverance, and a rock solid dedication to her Kentucky roots, Laura Bell Bundy has become a rising star in the country music industry. She began writing music at age 14 and started her own band at 18, and throughout her journey she has remained passionate about inflecting her songs with sounds that echo her Kentucky upbringing; and WHEREAS, Laura Bell Bundy wrote all but one song on her Universal Records release, Achin' and Shakin'. The album, which was both intensely personal and joyfully raucous, featured the hit "Giddy On Up," which reached number 31 on the U.S. billboard Hot Country Charts, and was featured on the popular video game Just Dance 3; and WHEREAS, in 2013, Laura Bell Bundy released the single "Two Step," featuring

Colt Ford. The track was named number three on the Top Ten County Dance Club Hits of 2013. She was also the featured opener for Rascal Flatts' 2013 Live & Loud Tour, and she has recently started work with Nashville producer David Huff to create a series of mix tapes entitled Beats & Banjos, tracks that will combine popular country songs with hip hop beats; and WHEREAS, Laura Bell Bundy's new release is "Kentucky Dirty." The track was featured on the acclaimed Kentucky basketball documentary The Sixth Man, and it is a testament to Bundy's own love of the University of Kentucky basketball team; and

WHEREAS, this honorable body acknowledges those Kentuckians with such extraordinary talent that they become known not only in this Commonwealth, but beloved all over the world for their artistic excellence. Laura Bell Bundy is one such Kentuckian, and this body honors her today for her work so far on stage and on screen, commends her for her dedication to her Kentucky roots, and wishes her the best of luck as she continues an already phenomenal career; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate hereby honors Laura Bell Bundy for her success in the world of music, television, and film, and grants her best wishes as she continues to be a testament to the spirit and artistic integrity of this Commonwealth.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Laura Bell Bundy.

 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Alice Forgy Kerr for delivery.
