NOPANA – November 12, 2016 MEETING

The November 12, 2016 NOPANA meeting was called to order at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio by Debbie Wilson, President, at 10 am. The Minutes from the September 10, 2016 meeting were presented and approved. The Treasurer’s report was reviewed and has been filed for audit.

Committee Reports: Program: Speaker was Kristie Gallagher, RN, MAN, CEN, Paramedic EMS-IC from ProMedica Toledo Hospital EC. Topic is Sepsis-Implications for Perioperative Nursing. Contact hours (1.5) are available for the presentation. Request for ideas for future presentations and potential speakers. Please contact Deb Wilson with suggestions for speakers for upcoming meetings. Next meeting: February, 2017 and May, 2017. Location will remain the same at Flower Hospital. Membership: NOPANA -46 members. OPANA total about 632 members. Audit: Financial report reviewed. Next audit: July 2016. State Rep: (Deb Wilson) ASPAN 2017 National conference is late April in Indianapolis, Indiana. New ASPAN guidelines will be out late this year. ASPAN has issued a statement on anesthesia gases. OPANA fall conference was is in Columbus on October 22, 2016. Charitable donations were gathered for the Ronald McDonald House. Speaker was Lois Schick a National speaker. Conference was well attended. Spring 2017 Conference is in Cincinnati area. Board meeting is the evening before the conference and is open to all members. If anyone would like to attend the board meeting let Deb know. Editor of the newsletter is looking for articles and news. Email the editor. Next edition should be out soon. Scholarship funds are available from NOPANA and OPANA for attendance of organizational sponsored educational workshops. Forms and information are available online.

Unfinished business: Rada knife fund raiser closed. NOPANA sold $1100 of knifes. Available today for pick up and distribution. New business: RN license renewal changes in state of Ohio—dates are being moved to November 1 because of a new computer system implementation. Open discussion related to community service. Motion made and approved to provide local Ronald McDonald House $100 donation cash or gift cards as requested by the agency. Membership news: ProMedica Toledo Hospital, Wildwood Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Center, Parkway Surgery Center began conversion new EPCI on November 1st. ProMedica Toledo Hospital is precepting junior BSN students with a Surgery experience that starts in preop and follows the Patient through Surgery and PACU. Three local universities are sending students for the experience.
