New Business a. Course description changes for GBL program/courses GBL 323, GBL 395, GBL 395H, GBL 420, GBL 451 – P. Stenzel GBL 420 – Capstone course for prelaw majors currently open only to seniors. Business Law would like to change restriction to open it to juniors and seniors (item 22 of the course change form). Advisors will encourage juniors to take it, since it is more beneficial for students to take this class before applying to law school their senior year.
GBL 323, GBL 395, GBL 395H, GBL 451 - These courses overlap substantially, so only one of the four courses may be taken. Business Law would like to change the descriptions to reflect this. The change for this set of GBL courses is to link them via the Associated Courses listing (item 17 of the course change forms). b. FI 435 – delete course – J. Wiggins FI 435 - The course has not been offered for several years. There are no plans to offer it in the future. It is not a requirement for any program so will not impact other programs. This elective will also need to be removed from the undergraduate program wording in the catalog.
A special meeting will be held by email vote in one week on the GBL and FI courses.
Old Business None.
Information Sharing and Updates a. Sustainability Specialization – P. Stenzel Sustainability specialization is being designed with the first course as a series of seminar type topics. The undergraduate academic program has various academic requirements that a majority of colleges working together will provide. The program will also require the student to do a portfolio. It will start this spring on a three year tryout. We have to offer courses, and several GBL courses and specific sections were identified. GBL 480 and GBL 395H were mentioned. No new courses are required from our college and we could expect about five non business students in our courses. b. RISE programs – P. Stenzel We have the opportunity to participate in RISE residential or non residential program. Pamphlet provided. Our name will be added to list with all our majors. c. Privacy protection for students – H. McKnight Concern was raised over the “opt out” privacy policy due to a student experiencing an issue related to the availability of her information. Currently to keep home or dorm information private, one must opt out (both students and faculty). Most students to not fully consider this and allow their information to be published through MSU’s web site. Opt out versus opt in was discussed, along with the proper forum to address this issue. Since the purpose of the directory was related to pre-internet communication, there was more need at that time. An email communication from Dean Booth to request examination of this policy in light of new technology will be sent.
G. McNamara moved to adjourn, seconded by B. Cooper. Meeting was adjourned at 4:51 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, Michelle J. McNure, Recording Secretary.
