Curious Kittens Nursery Sustainability Statement

At Curious Kittens our environment and natural resources are important to us. We love our world, and are acting on climate change, working collectively towards an improved quality of life for all. Sustainability is embedded into everything we do.

We do this by:

 Caring for our environment, inside and outside

 Developing our conservation area so we can use it for Forest School

 Encouraging a love of nature and wildlife

 Planting bulbs and trees

 ‘Growing’ butterflies each year

 Growing our own strawberries and herbs

 Feeding scraps to our land snails

 Reducing heat/energy/consumable usage wherever possible

 Wherever possible, buying Fair Trade produce

 Promoting healthy living eg our annual obstacle course.

 Junk modelling

 The 4 Rs – reduce, recycle, reuse, repair

 Raising children’s awareness of environmental issues through attendance at College events

 We have access to the College allotment

Current Sustainable Practices:

 We use rechargeable batteries August 2017

 We recycle paper products in the special bins provided

 We use wood, paper, plumbing equipment from the College faculties.

 We have had our dripping taps repaired.

 We turn off lights when we don’t need to use them.

 We recycle used toner cartridges back to the manufacturer to be refilled

 We have bamboo growing in the conservation area next to Paradise Road– great for reducing CO2 emissions

 Our old computer / school equipment is passed on to other settings including the Uganda Project

 the photocopier has a short time saver mode

 We use recycled products in the playground, including old tyres, cable reels.

 We use the College buses for trips between the nurseries.

 We use double sided photocopying where possible

 We re-use envelopes for the internal mail service

 We re-use plastic carrier bags for wet clothes

 Clothes are donated by parents for changing children

 We re-use and pass on, books and magazines

 The dishwasher / washing machine is run on full loads with minimal amount of soap

 We buy in bulk where possible to reduce packaging

 Doors are kept closed in winter to reduce heat loss

 We take part in charity events including Comic Relief, Red Nose Day, Race For Life Curious Kittens Nursery
