GERALD B. HART SCHOLARSHIP (education major specific) DUE DATE: APRIL 22nd

The Gerald B. Hart Scholarship shall be awarded to a Platte County R-3 High School senior planning to achieve an associate or bachelor’s degree. The scholarship recipient will be made known at the time of the high school awards assembly with disbursement of the money to take place at that time. The selection committee for the recipient shall consist of the officers of the Platte County R-3 CTA/MSTA and the CTA/MSTA scholarship committee members. The scholarship will be awarded on a non-renewable basis for an amount not exceeding $350.

Eligibility criteria: Recipients must have a high school grade point average of 3.0 or better. Recipients must be going into the field of education. Application procedure: 1. Type your short essay using 12-14 font using double spaces. ( It does not need to be more than a page.) 2. Include a copy of your current high school transcript in this application packet. 3. Include a typed list of your extra-curricular activities, leadership positions, and service projects. 4. Include 3 letters of recommendation from teachers or adults who are NOT family members in this application packet. The letters are not in envelopes but clipped with the other information. *application packets that do not include this information will not be considered by the committee. 5. Submit your application packet to Malinda Jeffries at Siegrist Elementary School.

Essay title: Why I Want to Become a Teacher

Selection Criteria: Applications will be evaluated by a group of MSTA affiliated teachers in the PCR-3 district. The applications are judged EQUALLY on academic achievement, answer to the essay question, and general impressions from the application packet students submitted.

How to receive the money if you are chosen the scholarship recipient: Scholarship recipients will be given a check from the CTA at the high school awards assembly. If a recipient does not receive the check at that time, they will need to contact Lea Ditmars at Siegrist Elementary School.
