YWCA PASADENA-FOOTHILL VALLEY WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TAMIKA FARR

Pasadena, CA -- On October 6th a new chapter began for the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley when they welcomed Tamika Farr as their new Executive Director. Mrs. Farr is new to the YWCA but she is no stranger to Pasadena and its youth. She comes to the YWCA with vision for its mission: to eliminate racism and to empower women. Her vision along with critical knowledge about the needs of our city’s youth, and tested development skills makes Tamika not only a woman with great vision for what she wants, she also finds funding to make that vision a reality.

“After an extensive search, we are excited to welcome Tamika to the YWCA Family. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience working with non-profits on all fronts and this will allow the YWCA to continue to prosper and grow,” notes Carmen Vargas, President of the Board of Directors.

Tamika’s expertise in business and child development come from over a decade of experience working with agencies that provide services for ‘at-risk’ youth. Her responsibilities within these agencies ranged from developing curriculum and teaching workshops to creating long-term fundraising strategies and managing multi-million dollar budgets. When asked about her decision to lead the YWCA, Tamika responded, “The YWCA has so much history and has been a part of some of the greatest social movements this country has seen, but as we know there is still so much more to do.” As a woman of color Tamika continues, “I am a beneficiary of the mission of the YWCA to eliminate racism and empower women. That’s the kind of mission I can get behind.”

Tamika Farr has a BA in Child Development from California State University, Los Angeles. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Argosy University. She is a wife and mother and lives in the City of Pasadena.
