Melcher, Arlyn J. Structure and Process of Organizations: A Systems Approach. New

Jersey: Prentice – Hall, Inc., 1976. In this book, Professor Melcher trains his audience to

“see” organizations in a managerial light. This visualization begins at the roots of the organization, its structure. My research was primarily focused on this part of the book, but Melcher also includes other aspects of business organizations. Subsequent chapters expound on employee behavior, stimulation, and leadership.

Miles, Raymond E. Organizational Strategy, Structure, and Process. New York: McGraw

Hill, 1978. This book offers a “theoretical framework” that outlines the correlation between organizational strategy, structure, process, and management. By touching on all of these topics, this book is able to encompass my complete project, and has proved a very insightful work for me to base my report. Organizational models are provided, with applications. Structural adaptation is laid out, and could be used for implementation into a business organization.

Mintzberg, Henry. The Structuring of Organizations. New Jersey: Prentice – Hall, Inc.,

1979. Mintzberg spent ten years accumulating information on how organizations formulate strategies. This book is the result of his studies and is a good knowledge bank for many areas of organizational policy. Mintzberg includes one chapter devoted to the structuring of an organization, offering much information on my studies. Other chapters include in – depth analysis of organizational strategy building.

Morgan, Gareth. Creative Organization Theory: A Resourcebook. Newbury Park: Sage

Publications, 1989. This book, an accompanying resource book for Morgan’s Images of

Organization, has provided much information on organizational structure. Morgan introduces Max Weber’s theory of bureaucracy, analyzes it, and offers implementation applications for its modified use in modern organizational structure. Organizational diagrams illustrate to the reader how these applications fall into place. The use of many case studies has also been rather interesting, and could provide other researchers information on various organizational topics.

Morgan, Gareth. Images of Organization, 2 nd ed. Newbury Park: Sage Publications,

1997. This work by Morgan, trains the reader to “read” management situations, and provides the tools for the manager to make appropriate decisions efficiently. Morgan also analyzes what organizations can act as. For example, Morgan compares organizations to brains, organisms, and machines. Throughout this book, the structure of the organization is compared to its effectiveness. This has provided me insight in my research endeavor.
