Dear Colleague, AFFILIATION FEES 2015

Arising from the national review of cricket affiliation fees led by the ECB and work undertaken locally with a number of cricket leagues in Yorkshire, a new pricing structure is now in place for the 2015 club affiliation package. The enclosed leaflet (previously circulated) provides details on what is available to all affiliated clubs. This letter sets out the new fee structure for 2015 and the background to the changes.

Under the new package, the affiliation fee for each club is now £45 with an additional fee of £15 for each senior team run by the club on the main match day. The affiliation fee for a club running with one team will, therefore, be £60; two teams £75; three teams £90 and so on. Please note this includes Womens teams but not junior teams.

The number of teams that must be affiliated is for the normal match day ( i.e. the day the club fields most teams though where a 3rd Xl plays in a Sunday League and not on Saturdays this would require a club to affiliate 3 teams). Before affiliating please check that, if your club plays in a league, that your club’s affiliation is not covered by your league fees. Senior Womens teams must also be included in your affiliation.

By way of background on these changes, we have been working with ECB for 3 years on a National Club Affiliation Package which has never been done before. There are 38 counties and 38 different packages. We now have a national core offer for clubs which is in our brochure. This offer is for every affiliated club in the county to access and is not open to anyone else. As we are a very big county– 747 clubs – 508 of these have junior sections and 118 leagues, we can offer more, particularly by having a fantastic County Club which is in full support. The Yorkshire Cricket Offer is bespoke to Yorkshire clubs only.

The pricing package itself was not actually designed by YCB Officials, but by club and league officials from the YCB Council for club and leagues. There were 8 members from small, medium and large leagues/clubs i.e. from grass roots cricket who made this decision on your behalf. There was much discussion on the levels of increase.

The YCB affiliation fee has not been increased for some time, in fact not since the late 1990’s – nearly 20 years - and we were the cheapest in the country by a very long way. Even for one team clubs who have only 12 players the new affiliation package is only £5 per head. We are acutely aware of the challenges faced by clubs, particularly smaller clubs in getting teams out each week and the vital role that volunteers play in making it happen. Over the last year we have developed an extensive suite of club Yorkshire Cricket Board ………………… YCB Office, Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds LS6 3BU Directors: P Radcliffe (Chair), A V Pattison , A Watson (Exec), I Cotterhill, M Arthur, C West, J Hildreth, U Rafiq. support materials on the ECB website that are available at www.ecb.co.uk/development/club-cricket/club-support.

Over the last 5 years we have accessed ECB/Sport England/key partner funding for facility development (from a non-turf-pitch to new pavilions) to the tune of over £5m. This has enabled many clubs to improve their facilities.

All affiliated clubs can access the full benefits of the package, which includes four tickets for this seasons T20 matches at Headingley under the new floodlights. Clubs are free to use the tickets for fund raising purposes, to reward volunteers, or for whatever purpose best suits the club. Also included is access to Funding4Sport, a company which supports clubs applying for project funding. Grant applications can only be supported for clubs who are fully affiliated.

Our general funding from the ECB has remained static and is projected to remain so. As such we need to look at our revenue streams working on the basis that most of the income from affiliation is re-invested into grass roots cricket.

20% of all affiliation fees are re-invested into the work of the Area Cricket Councils and 20% is allocated to the YCB Emergency Club Support Fund to re-invest back into recreational cricket. The income also supports the work of Cricket Development Groups plus other funding streams to support the development of recreational cricket.

Payment of fees is to be made by 31st May 2015 to Derek Shuttleworth, our Membership Secretary, to his home address, with cheques made payable to ‘Yorkshire Cricket Board’. For details of how to pay by BACs transfer please contact Graham Purdy on [email protected] . Please note that clubs whose fees are not paid by the above date will have their membership rights withdrawn, affecting insurance, grant rights and competition entries.

Yours sincerely
