Of 16 Youth Music of the World Is the Foremost Organiser of Performance Page 1 of 16 Youth Music of the World is the foremost organiser of Performance Travel Programmes in the world. Working with its partner Destination Events, Youth Music of The World has created, and exclusively operates, some of Europe’s greatest events for International Musicians. Events in the Youth Music and Destination Events stable include its flagship spectacular ‘The New Year’s Day Parade and Festival in London’, - the foremost event of its kind in the world with an annual attendance in excess of a million people and a television audience of more than 220 million worldwide. Other events include ‘The Paris Parade Festival’, ‘La Grande Parade de Chantilly’, ‘Edinburgh’s Easter Festival’, and ‘Easter in Maastricht’. Over the last twenty years Youth Music has arranged superb Performance Tours for more than 250,000 young musicians from all over the world to its various European events. For several years we have been planning the creation of a major event in Rome. We do not take things lightly at Youth Music, and an enormous amount of preparatory work has to be done before a major event can be launched. It has taken nearly two years, but I am now quite delighted to announce two new splendid events in Italy that will take place for the first time over the New Year period 2007/2008. With the Patronage and full support of Sr. Walter Veltroni, Mayor of Rome, and the Cultural Director for the City of Rome, we are pleased to announce an event provisonally entitled ‘American Bands in Rome’ to take place on January 1st 2008. This event promises to be spectacular. It will not just consist of North American Bands, there will also be a matching number of musical participants from Italy and other European countries. The event will consist of the opportunity to present magnificent arena displays in the splendid Piazza del Popolo before processing along Via del Corso, and Via Condotti to the Piazza di Spagna, and then giving finale performances in one of Rome’s most feted locations, the Spanish Steps. The event will be a truly Roman Celebration of New Year’s Day. A second highlight will be the opportunity to perform in the newly created Street Show in Frascati. Frascati is a delightful town perched high in the hills above Rome adjacent to Castel Gandolfo the Papal summer residence. Frascati is world renowned for its wine production, but there is much more to this wonderful town. Here on the 31st of December will be a Street Show (Parade) featuring local musical groups and other acts along with specially invited international bands. The event is jointly created by the Town of Frascati and Youth Music of The World, and is, of course, under the Patronage of the Mayor of Frascati. Page 2 of 16 (2) The two magnificent events are embellished by a brilliantly conceived cultural and touring programme which will immerse all participants in the deep and rich history of the eternal city of Rome, as well as visiting the Tuscan City of Florence the centre of Renaissance Art. As you would expect with Youth Music of The World the Performance Tour has been very carefully researched and prepared to mesh perfectly the cultural and touring opportunities with the all important performance opportunities. Our director of the Performance Tours in Rome is Ms. Ela Gurmen assisted by Mr. Alfredo Vernillo. Ela will be familiar to many of you, and is a byword for excellence in her organisation and operation of Touring Programmes for musical groups. The entire event is, of course, directed by our accomplished head office staff, and all of our representative offices have been fully and exhaustively educated in every conceivable aspect of the programme. During our preparations for the Launch of this magnificent venture in Rome we have organised and promoted a number of Performance Tours for groups in Italy to perfect our levels of service. In doing this we have promoted a considerable number of concerts in various venues in Rome, and other Cities in Italy with great success. Whilst we are principally seeking to invite substantial marching bands to the events in Rome and Frascati, should there be concert bands or orchestras, or even jazz bands within those marching bands, and should those ensemble wish to perform whilst in Italy, then we have some superb venues at which it would be possible for us to arrange individual or combined performances. To take part in Youth Music’s events in 2007/8 in Rome will be a truly memorable, once in a lifetime opportunity. I do urge you to look seriously at the materials in this pack, and then to contact one of our Representatives as soon as possible. One main meal and one snack meal will be served on each trans-Atlantic flight. Complimentary soft drink service on all long haul flights. Movies and audio entertainment on all trans-Atlantic sectors. There may be a small charge for headsets. Flights may be multi sectored – i.e. it may take up to three flights from your originating gateway to reach Rome. Six nights accommodation in a moderate First Class centrally located hotel in Rome. Students may be accommodated in rooms with a maximum of four beds, but usually in twin or triple bedded rooms, whilst all adults will be guaranteed to have twin or double bedded rooms. All rooms will have en-suite facilities including a bath and/or shower and W.C. A Continental buffet breakfast served in the hotel each day in Rome. A high quality three course dinner will be served in the hotel, at a nearby restaurant or at a restaurant convenient to the touring itinerary, on four nights. Each meal will consist of either an appetiser or pasta first course, (Antipasti or Primi Piatti) followed by a main course (secondi piatti) and then a desert (postre). Round trip transfers from a Rome airport to the central Rome hotel by luxury coach including specialist meet and greet service on arrival, and check-in assistance on departure. This will be a four hour tour which will include visits to the Colosseum and the Forum A half day educational tour of the Vatican City. This tour will be accompanied by a professional English speaking specialist guide, and chartered motor coach transportation to and from the Vatican City is included. The tour will include visits to the Vatican Museum, The Basilica of St. Peter’s, and the Sistine Chapel. The duration of the tour is four hours. A full day educational tour to the City of Florence. The tour will be by a specially chartered motor coach. Specialist professional Florence guides will accompany the tour throughout its time in Florence. Specific visits will be made the Accademia, and to the Duomo. The tour duration including a dinner stop will be 14 hours. Participation in the Frascati Street Show on the 31st of December. Included will be motor coach transportation to and from Frascati which will include a visit to the village of Castel Gandolofo, the Pope’s summer residence, on the journey to or from Frascati. Medit. 27: 137-150. 2017. — ISSN: 1120-4052 printed, 2240-4538 online. For the first time, the bryoflora of the Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo (Vatican City State) has been studied. Research led to the identification of 87 bryophytes (1 hornworts, 15 liver- worts and 71 mosses), among which one liverwort and six moss species are new reports for the Lazio Region. Zygodon forsteri, epiphyte species considered Vulnerable in Europe, Anthoceros agrestis and other species rare for Italy, were found in the study area. In addition, the life-form of each species was taken into consideration, in order to compare with the ecological and cli- matic characteristics of the territory examined. The study contributes to the knowledge of a ter- ritory of the Vatican City State that until now had been almost unexplored from the bryological point of view and provides important information for the realization and definition of the European and Mediterranean Red List of Bryophytes. Of special remembrance are the five Loyolans who, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, “gave the last full measure of devotion” on Italian soil: John J. Burke, John L. Carmody, Kenneth E. Krucks, Thomas A. McKitrick and Dean P. Reinert. John Felice, founder and guiding light of the Loyola Rome Center for thirty years and whose name was given to the Campus in 2004, was an intelligence officer in the British Eighth Army seconded to the American 12 th Air Force, 47 th Bombardment Group (Light) in preparation for the invasions of Sicily and the Italian mainland. John, who first inspired this Guide, passed away in January 2008, having lived the life of a great man. Another who served was the author’s uncle, Edward O’Connor. He followed his older brother, the author’s father, Philip J., into the U.S. Navy. Philip served in the South Pacific while Ed crewed in a 5-inch gun aboard the light cruiser USS Philadelphia . Before his nineteenth birthday, Eddie O’Connor participated in the invasion of Sicily, the landing at Salerno, the sbarco at Anzio-Nettuno followed by four months of daily missions from Naples to shell German forces besieging the beachhead, and the invasion of Southern France.
