Section 1.0: About LTEC 1100Summer Maymester 2013

This course is conducted completely online. You must complete all work within the 3 weeks and it will go quickly! Expect to work extremely hard to complete the work in that little amount of time. If you do not feel prepared to spend 15 hours or more a week on the class, it is better to drop before the course begins. Section 2.1: Overview The focus for this class is on learning the basics of computers, applications - like Word, Excel, web concepts, Power Point and multimedia and other parts to prepare you for living a digital life. You will learn mainly from a combination of computer simulations, Readings, and self-testing and hands-on activities. The majority of course activities will be conducted in an application called MyITLab, quizzes and exams will be located in Blackboard with additional components, if needed, housed in MyITLab. All assignments will be conducted or submitted in MyITlab or Blackboard. ------

Section 2.3: Class policies Attendance As this is an online course, we do not have face-to-face (FTF) meetings. However, you only have 3 weeks to get 16 weeks worth of content, so expect to work on this course every day for at least a couple of hours if not more.

Activities Activities in class are intended to help you learn the subject matter. It is important that you participate in these because they WILL impact your grades. ------

Section 2.7: Books and software There are 2 text books for this class:

Textbook: Primary Text: Technology in Action 8th Edition Secondary Text: Go! With MS Office 2010: Introductory Software: MyITLab Microsoft Office 2010 Suite

The Text book is delivered as an e-text. Your MyITLab access code will provide you with access for both the MYITLab environment and the e-texts. It is highly recommended that you purchase the package from the official UNT bookstore or Pearson (the software's publisher) to ensure all components are included. Codes purchased from other sources are not guaranteed to be complete and may require additional purchases. You will need the Access code and materials starting day 1. All other materials for learning relevant skills will come through online in MyITLab. Software: You are required to use a Microsoft compatible office suite such as MS Office 2010 to complete the work in this class. All assignments must be submitted in Microsoft compatible file formats or as directed by the instructor. Files which cannot be opened will be returned with a recorded score of 0. It is highly recommend that you purchase a copy of Microsoft Office 2010 as assignment instructions have been optimized for this version of the application. Completion Grader-Project based homework assignments with other versions of Office (2007, 2008 for Mac or 2011 for Mac) may require additional time for grading or prevent some features of MyITLab feedback system from fully functioning.

Section 2.8: Grading Grades will count for the course as follows:  MyITLab Training- 15%  Reflections – 15%  Chapter Quizzes:-- 20%  MyITLab Assignments: 30%  PreTest: 5%  Final Exam in MyITLab – 15% No Late assignments will be accepted. Assignments submit through Email will NOT be accepted Lack of access to a computer or technical problems with a computer are not acceptable excuses for missing assignments or deadlines. ------

Section 2.9: COURSE GRADES Grades will be calculated by the following scale: A = 90% or more B = 80 to 89.4% C = 70 to 79.4% D = 60 to 69.4% F = Below 60%

Section 3.0: Assignments and Schedules Major Learning Tasks The bulk of your grade will come from a series of lessons, quizzes and projects found in the textbook, Blackboard or MyITLab. In addition, there is a comprehensive final exam that you will be expected to complete at the end of the course. The projects are here to show that you can apply what you have learned in the trainings in such a way that I’l l feel confident that you know what you are doing with them.

The course is organized into 5 Units. The Units can be found in Blackboard and contain all instructions for learning tasks over a period of time.

Section 3.12: Other assignments and Blogs

You will have three reflection to complete over the course of this class. Reflections are to be submitted in Blackboard via Turnitin. ------

Section 3.13: Exams and quizzes Exam Information You will have 3 exams over the course of the semester - a pretest, midterm and comprehensive final exam. Exams may consist of multiple sections. Multiple choice based sections will be found in Blackboard while hands-on skill or project-based exams will be found in MyITLab. The Pretest exam is a comprehensive exam to provide us a benchmark of what you know at the start of the class. Blackboard's gradebook will report your actual earned raw score. This raw score is NOT the grade you will receive for completing this exam. All students who complete the pretest, regardless of earned score will receive a completion grade of 100% for this exam. There will be 1 major exam in this 3 week summer course the Final Exam. The test is designed to see if you learned all that we wanted you to learn. All Exams will take place in Blackboard for multiple choice and Hands-On in MyItLab. Quizzes There will be multiple chapter quizzes throughout the semester. Each chapter quiz can be found in Blackboard within the current Unit Learning Module. You will have 15 minutes to complete each quiz and you may retake the quizzes throughout the availability period. We will take the highest grade earned on the quizzes.
