J.B. Martin Pep Squad

August 15, 2016 Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are excited that your child has shown interest in the 2016-2017 J.B. Martin Pep Squad! Pep squad is a wonderful way for your child to make new friends and to support J.B. Martin athletics. Many pep squad members go on to cheer for the J.B. Martin and Hahnville cheerleading squads. With your cooperation, we hope to provide a structured, enjoyable extracurricular activity for your child!  FEE INFORMATION All Pep Squad members must pay a $25 Pep Squad fee for their uniform t-shirt, and bow. The fee may be paid in cash or a check made out to J.B. Martin. Please send money in an envelope with your child’s name on it! You may also pay online this year at http://osp.osmsinc.com/stcharlesparish/ or on the school’s home page, the “Fee Payment Online” link under “Quick Links.”  PHYSICAL AND PARENT CONSENT FORM A physical and parish-mandated parent consent form must be on file for your child to participate! Physical forms are available in the office and must also be turned in to the office. You must be present at school to sign the parish parent consent form. It cannot go home with your child! If you have any questions about physicals or parent consent forms, contact the office at (985) 758-7579.  POLICIES AND CONSEQUENCES We have attached the 2016-2017 J.B. Martin Pep Squad policies and consequences. Please read the guidelines carefully. We will review them with your child at our first practice/meeting.  PRACTICES AND GAMES Our first practice/meeting is Thursday, August 25, 2016. The week following this meeting we will meet for a special practice on Wednesday, August 31st . Pep Squad practices will take place every Tuesday after that from 3:05-5:00 p.m. during football season unless otherwise notified. After school activity busses are available to bring your child home. If you choose to pick up your child from practice, you must be at school by 4:45 p.m. All pep squad members that are not picked up will be required to ride the activity bus. Football games will take place either Wednesdays or Thursdays from September 22nd – November 3rd. The football schedule is attached. *Any 8 th grader, previously on Pep Squad, who wishes to be a manager must have all completed paperwork turned in by Wednesday, August 24 th and be prepared to stay after school on Tuesday August 30 th in order to learn routines and go over expectations .

 Pep squad members must complete a physical form & parish parent consent form and return the Pep Squad Parent Contact Sheet signed.

 Pep squad members must maintain a 1.5 average on progress reports and report cards.

 Pep squad members must not receive lower than a “C” in conduct.

 Emails or notes from parents or doctor must be sent/given to one of the sponsors within two days of absence from games or practices.

 Pep squad members must participate during practices and games.

 Pep squad members must attend ALL practices, which will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:05 - 4:45 p.m. (Monday or Wednesday practices may be held with ample notice).

 Pep squad members must ride the practice bus home unless a parent is there by 4:45 p.m. to take them home before the busses depart.

 ***Activity busses depart promptly at 5:00 p.m.***

 Pep squad members must arrive 15 minutes before the game (4:45 p.m.).

 Pep squad members cheer for both the A and B games.

 Pep squad members may ride home with another adult ONLY if a PARENT NOTE or EMAIL is presented to one of the sponsors with a phone number to verify.

 Students may not go home with anyone who is NOT on their emergency contact sheet.

 If a pep squad member is absent from school the day of a game or checks out early, she will NOT be allowed to cheer at the game that night.

 Pep squad members must dress out in full P.E. uniforms for ALL practices. (Exception for those not enrolled in PE, due to other courses.)

 Parents are expected to pick up their children promptly following activities. Students should be picked up at 7:45 p.m. Please do not wait for your child to call you to come pick them up. Pep squad members will not be allowed to use their cell phones during the game; therefore, plans for pick-up should be made prior to the event. Students not picked up on time will not be allowed to participate in pep squad.

 Parents/pep squad members must sign out with one of the sponsors before leaving a game/activity. Parent/guardian signing out must be on the student’s ride list.

 To be eligible for J.B. Martin cheerleader tryouts in the 2017-2018 school year, pep squad members MUST complete the year in good standing by abiding by the above policies. Consequences

Probation:

If a student does not maintain the stated grade point average and/or conduct average, he/she will be placed on probation until the next grading period. If a 1.5 average and a “C” in conduct are not achieved for the next grading period, he/she will be removed from the squad.

Benched for One Game:  Not participating at a practice or game without a parent excuse  Eating, drinking, or chewing gum while cheering at games  Excessive talking while cheering at games  School office referral during week of the game resulting in ISS or ADAPT  Tardy three times to practice or game  Inappropriate language/behavior  Insufficient knowledge of cheers  Improper conduct while in uniform  Disrespect to any adult  Not dressing out for practice two times

***When a member is benched for a game, she can only attend the game as a paying customer.

Dismissal from the Squad:  More than two benched games  More than two unexcused absences from practices or games

***Any case not mentioned in the above document will be decided by sponsors and administration. Please sign and return this page to Mrs. Puccio (A222) or Ms. Waguespack (A224) by August 24th. (Keep the first three pages for your records.) ** 7 th or 8 th graders wishing to be managers need paperwork returned by August 24 th.
