Research Paper Requirements American Authors 1900 to Present Day English 11

Rules and Requirements:

1. You will be writing a research based biography of another. Your paper will be 2-3 typed pages.

2. The research paper is worth 550 points. Preliminary work is worth 350 points and the final copy is worth 200 points.

3. Supplies need for paper: Due on October 13, 2016

3x5 inch lined index cards

4x6 inch lined index cards

Large Pocket File Folder

4. The MLA (Modern Language Association) style guide will be utilized for this paper. The EHS Style Guide will be utilized for citation examples and final copy examples.

5. MLA Format must be used

 12 point font

 Times New Roman

 1 “ Margins

 Entire paper should be double spaced (including works cited page)

 Your last name and page number should be on the top of each page

6. NOTHING HAVING TO DO WITH THE RESEARCH PAPER IS PERMITTED OUT OF THE CLASSROOM, EXCEPT TO GO WITH THE CLASS TO THE LIBRARY AND RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM. If your folder/material is missing from your portfolio when it is checked at random times, you will receive a zero for all the work up to that check point. (Department policy)

7. For a final grade, each student MUST turn in his/her rough draft completed in class with the final copy. Minor changes may be made; however, major changes will not be accepted.

8. Required sources to be present in the body with in-text citations and citations on works cited page: three (3)

9. Final copies with in-text citations and the works cited page are due on October 31, 2016, within the first 10 minutes of class. The teacher will receive each final draft with the rough draft and the portfolio (source cards, note cards, outline, and rough draft) into her hand. Students who are absent during the research process will not receive extensions unless prior approval is gained from Mr. Rodgers or Mrs. Fondren. If a student is absent, he or she must make-up the work before or after school. Work cannot be done outside of class.

*LATE papers will have 10 points deducted per late day. LATE papers must be put in Mrs. Fondren’s hand. I will not accept late papers past November 2, 2016.

COMPONENTS

1. Source cards- Must have 3- 2 print; 1 AVL 30 Points

2. Note Cards- Must have 10 110 Points

3. Outline 30 Points

4. Rough draft with in-text citations (at least 3 sources) 90 Points

5. Works Cited Page 60 Points

6. Final Copy 200 Points

7. Library Productivity 30 Points TOTAL= 550 Points

You must have one type of card per source

Label the backs of each card with a P/S/DQ

*If there is no author of the article, use the title of the article

*Use reversed hanging indentation for the works cited page *There is an example of the final draft and the works cited page at the front of the EHS Style Guide.

*Page numbers go at the top right hand corner of each page including the works cited page.

*MLA format must be exact for full credit.

*You will have SAMPLES available to you for this paper.

*I will not correct every error on the source cards or works cited. The citation will be either correct or incorrect.
