4 RESOLUTION 2008-741 5 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY’S DEEPEST 6 SYMPATHIES UPON THE DEATH OF JACKSONVILLE 7 SHERIFF’S OFFICER MICHAEL BRANDT HARTSFIELD; 8 PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. 9

10 WHEREAS, Michael Brandt Hartsfield was a native of 11Jacksonville and a graduate of Sandalwood High School who was hired 12as a police officer by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 13November 1990; and 14 WHEREAS, Officer Hartsfield spent his entire 18-year career 15with the JSO in Zone 2 patrolling the streets and getting to know 16the people of the Arlington/Fort Caroline area; and 17 WHEREAS, Brandt Hartsfield was a courageous and skilled 18officer who received numerous commendations during his career, 19including being named Zone 2’s “Finest of the Month” four separate 20times from 2001 to 2007 and being honored as Zone 2’s “Finest 21Officer of the Year for 2007”; and 22 WHEREAS, Officer Hartsfield, a father of two boys and one girl 23and an avid fisherman and waterman, was respected by his colleagues 24as truly one of Jacksonville’s finest, and honored for his bravery 25in the line of duty; and 26 WHEREAS, Michael Brandt Hartsfield’s life was tragically cut 27short when he was killed in an automobile accident in late July, 28and the City laments his untimely passing; now therefore 29 BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Jacksonville: 30 Section 1. That the City of Jacksonville hereby expresses

2 1its deepest sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of 2Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer Michael Brandt Hartsfield upon the 3occasion of his untimely passing, and remembers with gratitude his 4bravery and devotion to duty and to the protection of the citizens 5of Jacksonville. 6 Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become 7effective upon signature by the Mayor or upon becoming effective 8without the Mayor's signature. 9
