While at University 33 Hospital in Jacksonville, he served as chief resident and instructor 34 of medicine; and 35 36 Whereas, in 1980, he became the first oncologist to practice in 37 Lexington County. In 1999, he helped found South Carolina 38 Oncology Associates, P.A., and has served the Midlands there 39 since that time; and 40 41 Whereas, over the years, Dr. Jones has served as a member of the 42 Lexington Medical Center (LMC) Foundation Board of Directors;

[4376] 2 1 chief of the LMC Department of Internal Medicine; secretary, 2 chief of medical staff, and past chief of medical staff for the LMC 3 Offices of Medical Staff; member of the LMC Board of Directors, 4 a position to which he was reappointed in January 2011; member 5 of several LMC committees, including the Cancer Committee 6 (current chairman), Past Chiefs of Staff Committee (also a current 7 post), Medical Executive Committee, and Pharmacy & 8 Therapeutics Committee (past chairman). Additionally, he serves 9 on the Compliance Committee of South Carolina Oncology 10 Associates, P.A., and is past medical director of TriCounty 11 Hospice; and 12 13 Whereas, among his numerous professional activities, Dr. Jones 14 counts membership in the American Cancer Society (committee 15 chairman, local chapter), American Medical Association, South 16 Carolina Medical Association, South Carolina Oncology Society 17 (SCOS Executive Committee), Lexington Medical Association 18 (past president), Clemson Alumni Physicians Society (past 19 president), and Medical University of South Carolina Admissions 20 Committee (current position); and 21 22 Whereas, in addition, because he strongly believes in active 23 participation in community life, Dr. Tripp Jones is a member of 24 Union United Methodist Church and the Lake Murray Association 25 and serves on the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame Board of 26 Directors. He also served on the Clemson University Board of 27 Visitors and the Security Federal Bank Advisory Board; and 28 29 Whereas, moreover, as attested by the orange or purple lab coats 30 he has worn for the past fifteen or twenty years, Tripp Jones is an 31 avid Clemson fan. His patients grin as they remember his orange 32 prescription pads sporting white lettering and a Tiger Paw to 33 indicate refills, further personal testimony to a firm loyalty to his 34 alma mater. To honor his contributions to the university, a 35 Clemson scholarship is given in his name to biology students; and 36 37 Whereas, during Dr. Jones’s wellearned retirement, the House of 38 Representatives hopes he will find himself more frequently able to 39 indulge, with his lovely wife, Anne, in “dive trips,” during which 40 the two of them scuba dive and swim with the fish they so enjoy 41 observing; and 42

[4376] 3 1 Whereas, having made his mark and set the bar of achievement 2 extraordinarily high in his profession, Dr. Jones will be 3 remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues, patients, 4 and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore, 5 6 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 7 8 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 9 by this resolution, congratulate George Tripp Jones, M.D., of 10 Columbia upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for 11 his many years of dedicated service as a medical professional, and 12 wish him much happiness and fulfillment in all his future 13 endeavors. 14 15 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 16 Dr. George Tripp Jones. 17 XX 18
