Oakwood Leadership Agenda

Oakwood Leadership Agenda May 4, 2016, 7:00 am

Present: Kaylynn Hamblin, DeAnn Wilson, Chris Barnes, Amy Priestley, Alicia Ellis, Dotty Evanson

School Improvement: Purpose and Direction  Review of Mission Statement: “Promote Continual Learning and Responsible Citizenship.” Leadership team felt the mission statement is still appropriate and will take it to the PLCs and get input.  Promoting Mission Statement for 2016-17: Vinyl Lettering in the main hall. Kaylynn will talk with PTO about getting it up in the main hall during the summer. Continue to use the statement in the handbook and documents that go home. Post other signs around the school with the mission statement.

Goverance and Leadership  Need to work on consistency of PLC meetings

Teaching and Assessing For Learning  Benchmarking: The staff has done an excellent job of doing the benchmarking this year. Teachers are posting the scores in One Drive. Dotty will work on analysis as the scores are posted.  Benchmarking Correlation: A concern was raised about correlation with ISATs. As we look at the data the team will get input from PLCs and then decide if current benchmarks are best for our kids. If changes are made we must be sure there are national norms and cut scores.  Benchmark Timing: 5th grade brought up that students did not do as well on Spring benchmarking. They felt it was because we tried to squeeze it in between ISATs and the kids were burnt out. Alicia commented on one benchmark that was given prior to ISATs and the kids did great. Then on the rest that were squeezed in between ISATs they did not do well overall. The team decided all benchmarking should be done before ISATs start, probably just the week before.  Aims concerns: The state is slowly backing out of Aims. Not sure what will be available next year. Kaylynn will check. If the state does not fund, the school may look at purchasing some licenses.  Interim Testing: The team has already discussed with their PLCs interim testing for next year. They want to do Interim testing in September and then do some professional development to help teachers address helping the kids be successful. They will stagger the testing so computer schedules will not be disrupted. The team also wants to make sure teachers are working with their students on test taking skills.

Resources and Support Systems  Achieve The Core – website with text dependent questions  Airportal Parent Practice Test button helped students whose parents actually worked with them on the site. We will promote this more next year.

Using Results for Continuous Learning  When the analysis is done on the benchmarking, the Leadership Team will look at the correlation with ISATs. PLCs will also go over their grade level reports.
