Dear Friends,

We are looking forward to your time with us in New York. God is blessing our ministry with many teams from out of town. (We have groups scheduled almost every weekend through out the year and every day for most of the summer. Each group brings a unique refreshing of the Spirit to our church, neighborhood and city. We are grateful for each one of you. If this is your first time, this letter will help you prepare, for your time here. If you have been with us before, then this letter will help bring to mind how you may get the most out of your time with us and how you can best help, our joint ministry together.

Bring blankets or a sleeping bag, pillow, towels, personal toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.) Clothing rules will be discussed in the attachment called house rules.

Preparation is very important. Prayer and time spent together will help make a cohesive and unified team. It is good to give preparatory assignments to all team members. It will help prepare them, and it can also help leadership identify possible problem areas and individuals ahead of time. New York often brings out the best and worst (weakness) in those who come. Commitment to the trip, unity with the team, and submission to your leadership and any rules given are very important areas to work on. (Your weakest links will require most of your time.) Have enough staff, (adults) to help. Make sure that it is clear that any severe disciplinary problems could result in the individual being sent home at their own, or parent’s expense.

You may want to have each person prepare a testimony. Learning the wordless book (also wordless bracelets) is an excellent way to help individuals to learn how to witness. Dramas and Children’s ministries are other areas that can be prepared. Make sure the skits are lively and attention grabbing. Leadership should also plan for devotional times (mornings) and debriefings while here. (Not necessarily every night.)

(A briefing and an explanation of recycling rules and garbage takeout will be given to you on arrival.) A final clean up will be required before you leave.

Safety issues should be discussed. (They will be gone over with you here as well.) Such things as always staying with the group. Not going anywhere without speaking to leaders. Small groups should have a guy present with the girls when out.

Finances should be considered. Transportation costs on the subway are $2.25 per person-1 way, $4.50 round trip. Put $10 or more on your card and receive a 7 percent bonus. For example, a $20 purchase gives you $21.40 on your card. Refill your card to use the balance. A “Weekly Fun Pass is $29.00. This allows you unlimited passage for a day or week. Our church van may be available for use by groups. (Please consider an additional $60 donation per day to the church if you need to use the church van.) Food Costs will vary depending upon your menu. We have several large grocery stores close by. (A kitchen and dining room is available for use.) Extra Money for tourism, souvenirs, meals out, snacks and soda should be considered.

We work on a donation basis for the expenses of our ministry. A fair consideration may be a donation of $15 -$20 per person per night. Some groups have taken an offering in their church; others include the donation in the fees they charge their team members. We are grateful for whatever financial help we receive. We ask that you send a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 to secure your reserved place for weekend ministry: or $300 for reservations for ministry longer than 4 days. ($500 deposit if you want us to cook and take care of transportation.) If you need to cancel please inform us as soon as possible, because we often have other teams who are interested in the dates. Should you desire us to handle the whole package; (transportation, food and donation) you should figure $65.00 per person per night.
