Sarah Nelson: “Scratching The Surface” September 5, 2008 – September 30, 2008

Opening Reception: Friday September 5, 2008 5-8 PM (An Albuquerque Artscrawl Event)

Aether, 2008 Kiln-formed glass. 8.5 X 1.75 Inches round.

We are pleased to welcome Sarah Nelson back for her fourth show at Palette Contemporary Art & Craft. Sarah’s show will open with a reception on Friday September 5, 5-8 PM and will run through September 30, 2008. Sarah will be in attendance on September 5.

The September 5 reception will start Palette’s contribution to a month long Albuquerque Artscrawl event called ‘Local Treasures’. Local Treasures is a city-wide event where every participating Artscrawl gallery will showcase a local Albuquerque artist. We proudly represent local artist Sarah Nelson and her fine art glass platters. On September 21, a reception will be held at the Albuquerque Museum to honor all the local artists exhibited as Local Treasures to support and congratulate their creativity that has enriched the Albuquerque arts community.

Sarah Nelson studied Art at Northern Illinois University receiving her Bachelor of Arts in 1990 with emphasis in Visual Communications and Photography. Sarah has held many jobs utilizing her technical skills while maintaining a presence in the fine arts community. After relocating from Chicago to Albuquerque in 2000, she began to work in glass. Her first Palette appearance was in January, 2006.

Sarah’s kiln-worked glass pieces are colorful and contemporary in design. They are created via her vitrograph which is placed six feet off the ground and the molten glass flows out of a bottom hole. Sarah manipulates the glass as it comes out, creating shapes. She then uses these shapes to create her art.

For her September reception and show, Sarah has created seven new platters. You’ll enjoy the variety of surface textures, colors, and compositions that she has created.
