Gambrell 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\agm\18855ab16.docx 11 12 Introduced in the House on January 20, 2016 13 Adopted by the House on January 20, 2016 14 15 Summary: Lynda Bagwell Alewine; Patty Burns 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 1/20/2016 House Introduced and adopted ( House Journalpage 2) 22 23 View the latest legislative information at the website 24 25 26 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 27 28 1/20/2016 29 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR HONEA PATH POSTAL 12 EMPLOYEES LYNDA BAGWELL ALEWINE AND PATTY 13 BURNS FOR THEIR BRAVE AND HEROIC ACTIONS IN 14 HONEA PATH ON JULY 15, 2015, WHICH SAVED THE 15 LIVES OF FOUR OF THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS TOGETHER 16 WITH THEIR PETS WHEN A SUDDEN LIFE-THREATENING 17 FIRE ENGULFED THEIR HOME. 18 19 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 20 Representatives were pleased and proud to learn that two Honea 21 Path postal employees, Lynda Alewine and Patty Burns heroically 22 saved the lives of a family of four people together with their pets 23 who were trapped inside their Honea Path home on July fifteenth 24 after a fire quickly broke out and was rapidly spreading; and 25 26 Whereas, Lydia Alewine was on her way home from work, which 27 was on the route that she had delivered to previously, when Patty 28 Burns, who was delivering packages on that same route, caught her 29 attention as she was passing by; and 30 31 Whereas, Patty Burns had noticed smoke coming out of a house 32 nearby and both ladies quickly sprang into action by calling 911 33 and rushing to the endangered premises without regard to their 34 personal safety; and 35 36 Whereas, when they reached the premises, the whole house was 37 blazing with flames coming out of the top of the roof; and 38 39 Whereas, after banging on the door to alert the people inside they 40 then, together with the two adult family members inside, rescued 41 two children, one of whom was a small baby which Lynda 42 continued to cradle and protect until further help arrived; and
[4704] 2 1 2 Whereas, the quick actions of these two brave ladies in a 3 dangerous and difficult situation saved the lives of four people 4 who but for the grace of God and the courage and quick thinking 5 Lynda Alewine and Patty Burns, might not be with us today; and 6 7 Whereas, what these two amazing ladies did that July day not only 8 brings great honor and credit to them, but also to the organization 9 for which they work, and is in the best tradition of United States 10 Postal employees throughout our country; and 11 12 Whereas, on behalf of those four people who survived and on 13 behalf of all South Carolinians who take great pride in the selfless 14 actions of these ladies, it is fitting and proper to recognize their 15 heroism and to extend to them our sincere thanks and gratitude for 16 being instrumental in saving the lives of four of our fellow 17 citizens. Now, therefore, 18 19 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 20 21 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 22 by this resolution, recognize and honor Lynda Bagwell Alewine 23 and Patty Burns for their brave and heroic actions in Honea Path 24 on July 15, 2015, which saved the lives of four of their fellow 25 citizens together with their pets when a sudden and life-threatening 26 fire engulfed their home. 27 28 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 29 Lynda Alewine and Patty Burns. 30 XX 31
