Choosing Wisely Choosing Wisely is a campaign aimed at encouraging clinicians and patients to have conversations about unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures; that is health interventions that do not add value and may potentially cause harm, lead to more testing and contribute to stress for patients. More is not always better,

The campaign is clinician-led and aimed at improving the quality of care. Fifteen Medical Colleges and specialty societies working in New Zealand have already identified tests, procedures and interventions which evidence shows should be questioned.

The Council of Medical Colleges is facilitating this campaign in New Zealand and is making links with other health professionals, health NGOs and consumer groups to get support for the campaign to be launched formally in early December.

Health and Disability NGO Newsletter – September 2016 4 Dr Derek Sherwood will be talking about Choosing Wisely at the NGO National Forum on 12 October 2016. For more information contact [email protected]
