2017-18 TEACHING AWARD

The College of Education invites nominations for the College of Education Faculty Teaching Award. One award will be presented for the 2017-2018 academic year and will include a $1,000 prize and plaque. The recipient will be recognized at the College of Education Convocation.

Eligibility  Must be a career-line, tenure track, or tenured faculty in the College of Education.  Currently teaching half time and have a minimum of three years teaching experience with the college.  Awardees within the last five years will not be considered.

Nominations  Nominations may be made by any full or part-time faculty member, staff member, or student.  The candidate's name and the signature of the nominator must be included on the nomination form.  Eligible nominees will immediately be notified, and asked to submit materials.

Criteria for Award The Faculty Awards Committee will utilize the following criteria:  Effective instruction as evidenced by student evaluations and recommendations.  Motivation and stimulation of students.  Demonstrated concern for students in and out of the instructional setting.  Development of innovative teaching methods, courses, or instructional materials.  Expertise, command, and effective communication of subject matter through teaching.  Involvement with students through advising and mentoring.  Contributions to the College of Education or the University at large through activities that advance instructional effectiveness and/or enrich the learning experiences of students and faculty.

Subsequent Required Information from the Nominee Includes  A recent CV.  A personal statement of no more than three pages discussing his or her teaching experiences and perspectives.  A summary of student course evaluation data.  At least three letters of support from students who can attest to the teaching abilities of the nominee.  A letter of support from the department chair.  Other support documents deemed appropriate (optional).  Nominee material is due to the Dean’s office by March 10, 2018.  Nominees NOT selected for the teaching award do not need to resubmit their files to the Awards Committee to be considered for the award for the following year.  To be considered the following year, candidates should update their vitae, their personal statement, their teaching evaluation summary, and submit any materials missing from the file from the previous year.  Previous nominees will be contacted by the Awards Committee chair to determine whether they want to be considered for the award the next year.
