Mural Artists Brief: Expressions of Interest for Lyneham Toilets

Introduction Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) is calling for expressions of interest (EOI) from artists for the development, design and production of a mural on a TCCS building at Lyneham Shops. EOIs may be submitted from an individual artist or teams and should aim to increase community pride.

Location The site is located on Wattle Place, Lyneham. Please refer to the map and images below for further information. The building surface is painted brick.

Creative Objectives TCCS are looking for a fun and engaging mural that is responsive to the site’s surroundings. EOIs should seek to achieve the following outcomes:  Reflect the history and community of Lyneham .  Expose the community to contemporary art forms, increasing understanding and appreciation.

Budget Ironlak spray paint and a base coat paint will be supplied by TCCS, with the selected artist choosing colours. A community consultancy fee of $2000 will be paid to the artist. The artist is expected to consult with local community over the design ideas, with their feedback being incorporated into the final design.

Artists Role The role of the artist is to design and install a public art work in line with the specifications in this brief and subsequent Artists Agreement. The artist is expected to work in collaboration with TCCS and the local community during the design, development and installation.

Health and Safety The artists will have to provide evidence of public liability insurance. A works plan and risk assessment will be written and actioned by the artists and TCCS.

Artist Selection All applicants will be assessed by a panel including representatives from TCCS and Lyneham business owners.

Selection criteria Artists are required to email their name, email address, phone number and: 1: Up to 10 images of recent art works (Photographs of sketch books, street art, paintings or other mediums to show your style of art) 2: A written statement of no more that 500 words on what art work you would like to paint.

Supporting Documents If selected, the artist will have to provide the following documents which will be emailed to them to complete and return: Artists Agreement to sign Works plan with time and dates of when the mural will be painted and finished by Workplace health and safety risk management for the creation of the mural Copy of artists Public Liability Insurance Consultation The selected artist and TCCS will consult surrounding residents and businesses owners to seek their input on the final design.

Timeline EOI released on Friday 21 October EOI closing date is 5pm on Monday 14 November Selection of artist will be by Friday 18 November Consultation and mural to be painted in December
