Job Title Junior School Classroom Assistant Responsible to: Junior School Headmaster Responsible for: N/A Hours of Work: 12.75 hours per week: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 8.15am to 12.30pm Term-time only for 170 working days per year. Job Purpose The Junior School Classroom Assistant is required to work as part of the St Leonards Junior School team which supports the development and delivery of high quality primary education for pupils and families. The Junior School Classroom Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the teaching staff but will ultimately report to the Junior School Headmaster.

Responsibilities:  Contribute to effective classroom administration, organisation of resources and the set-up of practical activities.  Support the learning needs of pupils, under the direction of the Classroom teacher.  Assist pupils to effectively access curriculum-based resources.  Encourage a safe, caring, stimulating and inclusive environment in which pupils flourish.  Undertake supervisory duties e.g. breaks and lunchtimes as directed by the Junior School Headmaster.  Secure the safety, welfare and good conduct of pupils during breaks and lunch periods.  Adhere to the School’s professional Code of Conduct in line with SCIS and GTCS principles.  Maintain knowledge of the PYP curriculum.  Seek appropriate professional development opportunities to continually update skills.

Other reasonable duties as required, from time to time, by the Junior School Headmaster for the smooth running of the Junior School to support school priorities.

Person Specification

Essential Desirable Experience  Proven experience of working in an  Proven experience of working as a Education environment. teaching assistant, particularly in a Junior or Primary School.

Knowledge/  Qualifications: SQA Standard Grades  SQA Highers or A Levels in relevant Qualifications or GCSEs in English and Maths. subjects.  Professional qualification in childcare or early education. Skills/Competencies  Ability to work independently with initiative and as part of a team.  Excellent organisational skills.  Awareness of Health and Safety and Child Protection regulations.  Ability to remain calm under pressure.
