What is Scarborough Engineering Week? A three-day annual event designed to show how science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) can make a difference in the real world. It inspires students and their families to consider the exciting opportunities that studying and working in STEM open up to them.

Now in its eighth year, the event was founded in 2010 by The Scarborough Business Ambassadors with huge support from Unison Ltd, Scarborough Borough Council and NYBEP Ltd, was and is driven by the need to promote careers in engineering and the local progression routes available to improve recruitment in the sector.

Empowering young people to take control of their future in an ever-changing world is essential for successful futures, especially as they progress to careers which do not yet exist, use technology not yet invented and solve problems we do not even yet know are problems. This is at the heart of Scarborough Engineering Week (SEW).

The event is not for profit and we rely on your support and commitment to bringing Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to life for young people. Each year we take on board comments we receive to try to improve the event and ensure we are constantly improving.

We are pleased to announce for 2017 – Sirius Minerals and the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP as our continued Headline Sponsors, and Venue Sponsor, Scarborough Spa, and Transportation Sponsor, North Yorkshire County Council.

This year exhibitors are invited to support one of the events zones:

Employer Zone – Zone dedicated to interactive hands on STEM activities provided by employers. Post 16 Education and Training Provider Zone – Zone dedicated to providing impartial Post 16 further pathway information on further STEM studies - supported by Post 16 institutions, Colleges, Universities, and Training Providers.

Who is it for? Through our action packed 3-day event, over 3500 young people aged 7-19 and their teachers and parents/carers will benefit from taking part in SEW 2017 - it has something for everyone, from hands-on activities, to discovering the wealth of exciting career opportunities available to them in science and engineering.

SEW 2017 will host one evening session aimed at engaging families and will also house this year’s SEW2017 Schools Challenge – The Trading Game.

The event will also host the annual SEW2017 Dinner - this year we want to celebrate our sponsors’ contributions to the event - to do this we are introducing four awards to be awarded at the dinner. When and where is it? Scarborough Engineering Week 2017, kindly hosted by the Scarborough Spa will take place, 10th, 11th and 12th October 2017.

The provisional event programme. Tuesday 10th October 2017 9am – 4pm Pre-registered secondary schools and colleges 4.30pm – 6.30pm Families and young people Careers Evening Wednesday 11th October 2017 9am – 4pm Pre-registered secondary schools and colleges 7pm onwards Scarborough Engineering Week 2017 Dinner Thursday 12th October 9am – 4pm Pre-registered primary schools

Why should I be involved? Sponsorship of SEW2017 offers unique exposure to a large number of young people who have a potential interest in STEM as a career and you support raising their aspirations. Being a part of the event also raises the sponsor’s profile with the public, Government and with schools and colleges.

Last year 41 employers inspired c2500 students from across 33 schools into STEM at event.

Impact Join us to share in the impact, as a sponsor we will shout about it through media, social media and our website as well as at the event and in our event guide. We will also share with you the final evaluation including, photos, number of students engaged and real life quotes to use on your website.

How can I get involved? Whether you are a business, a research organisation, a trade or professional body or a Post 16 learning provider, or if you’re in any way involved in STEM, we’ll have a support package that will work for you. If you can’t see one below, just talk to us. We’ll be delighted to discuss a package that will meet your needs. We want as many organisations as possible to be involved in the event, and to share in the impact we can have together on young people’s lives.

We have a range of sponsorship/exhibitors’ packages available below.

Once you have decided which sponsor/exhibitor package you are interested in please complete the form below and return to Yvonne Emerson – [email protected] using the subject header ‘SEW2017’ alternatively if you would like any further details that are not included in this pack or wish to discuss the event in greater detail please don’t hesitate to contact Yvonne Emerson or Claire Healy 01904567616.
