Update from Kilmer Leadership

JOYCE KILMER SPC MEETING February 8, 2017

UPDATE FROM KILMER LEADERSHIP  Unfortunately, Ms. Brewster had emailed stating there would be no leadership available for this meeting. We were instructed to email any questions that may come up. o Items we plan to email about: . Buddy Bench – Would we need approval to do this? Would school be able to fund or should we do separate donation for this? Possibility of getting bench donated? Children involvement as far as painting? . Winter Concert – Now that we have a music teacher, planning is starting for winter concert. SPC has been asked to assist in recommending venues we may be able to use.  Katie has a call in to Roxbury Latin. Other suggestions were the Irving, Mission Hill or the Orhenberger. . Field day: We are still needing to know the dates . Looking for more information about the 3rd grade advance learning . Upper school has not recess, it was asked if this could be something added to their day with ELT . The question came up again if there was going to be a visit to the upper school for the 3rd grade parents SSC UPDATE  During last meeting, there was an update from the district technology director, Mark Racine. Principal stated a lot needed to happen before the program of the 3rd graders bringint tablets home can happen. o 2nd – 8th grade has access to technology during the day. Upper school uses tablets and lower school uses chromebooks.  ELT: No new updates during SSC at this time. Still waiting to see if we got approval for the additional staff that would be needed in order for this to be successful. The possibility of a waiver was brought up but members of SSC are still exploring this. There will be more information available about this at next SSC meeting.  The SSC is looking to have an additional meeting regarding the budget as they were just given a copy of the budget the day of the meeting. There are several concerns regarding the budget.  Co Chairs Patrick and Nicole have nominated Phoebe Bustamante to be a voting member of the SSC. She was unanimously voted in by all in attendance at the SPC meeting.  There will be an ELT focus group on 2/28/17 run by Kristen McSwain that will be held at the lower school.

BUDGET UPDATE  Current funds are $8400.00. o At this time, no teacher reimbursements have been processed. o Remaining cost for the year is estimated to be around $6800 ($5000 for field trips, $1800 for teacher reimbursements). This does not include field day, which is usually expensive.  Planning on sending out appeal letter via email and backpack. o Need to let families know what we actually spend the funds on each year. o Sending letter now and will send another one close to spring (may be funny so as to not repeat ourselves and grab attention).  New box top coordinator is Minnie.  Christine contacted Stop & Shop about their fundraising program. The A+ School rewards program open enrollment is closed now but Christine was able to update some information and will sign the Kilmer SPC up when it opens in August. o This reimbursement gets sent to the school so we need to follow up with Ms. Cramer to see if anything has been received this year.

FUNDRAISING/EVENTS  Planning a Y Night Out for the end of March. o Thinking of having a donation box o Could also bring in pizza for this event  Wednesday March 8th hosting a “Paint Night” with JJ Artworks at Waterford’s in Dedham o Cost per seat if $40.00 and Kilmer will receive $15/seat o We will also have a 50/50 at this event.  Parent Night out at West on Center Monday May 22nd. o 10% of all sales will go to Kilmer (dine in or take out, includes alcohol)  Other possible fundraisers for the future: o Corn Hole Tourament o Trivia Night

o Roxbury Latin – Katie CM - Jen Dedham Health – Natalie

 Upper School cafeteria would cost $250 to “open”  DJ Ed is booked for April, Nicole to contact her brother in law about possibly DJ’ing.  Possible dates at this point are 4/8, 5/13 or 5/20.
