Introduction Pursuant to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India Notification No.SO 141 (E) dated 15.01.2016 and SO 190 ( E) dated 20.01.2016 the District Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (DEIAA) and District Environment Appraisal Committee (DEAC) were constituted in Tiruppur District for the grant of Environmental Clearance for category “B2” projects for quarrying of Minor Minerals. The main purpose of preparation of District Survey Report is to identify the mineral resources and developing the mining activities along with other relevant data of the District. The DEAC will scrutinize and screen scope of the category “B2” projects and the DEIAA will grant Environmental Clearance based on the recommendations of the DEAC for the Minor Minerals on the basis of District Survey Report. This District Survey Report is prepared with the assistance of Geological Survey of India, State Unit, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Chennai. As per G.O.Ms.No. 617, Revenue Department, dated 24.10.2008, the new “Tiruppur District” is formed by reorganising Coimbatore and Erode Districts. The Tiruppur District covers an area of 5186.34 sq.km and falls within the latitude from 10°12'47" to 11°22'26'' and longitude from 77°04'30" to 77°56'00". It has nine taluks (Tiruppur North, Tiruppur South, Avinashi, Uthukuli, Kangeyam, Palladam, Udumalpet, Madathukulam and Dharapuram) with total population of 24, 79, 052 (as per 2011 census). The Tiruppur District lies on the western part of Tamil Nadu bordering the Western Ghats and is surrounded by Coimbatore District in the West, Erode District to the North and northeast and Karur District in the East and Dindigul District in the South East. To the south, a minimum part of the district is bordered with Idukki District of Kerala state. Overview of Mining Activity Minerals of Economic importance found in Tiruppur District are mainly Gypsum, Kankar, Magnesite, Dunite, Quartz, Feldspar, varieties of colour granites (Dimensional stones), Rough stone (aggregates) and gravel/earth. Mining activities based on these minerals are very less. However, numerous Rough Stone quarries are under operation for production of construction materials and earth fill (gravel) in Kodangipalayam, Morattupalayam, Madathukulam, Kiranur, Moolanur areas in the district. In addition to above, ‘Dimensional Stones’ (Granite) is also available in Avinashi, and Kangeyam Taluks. The office of the Deputy Director, Department of Geology and Mining is functioning under the control of District Collector, Tiruppur. The Deputy Director, Geology and Mining is assisting the District Collector in the Mineral Administration works. 6 3. Radhakrishnan1 and P.P.Murugan2 ABSTRACT To achieve the evergreen revolution in agriculture sector, retaining rural youth in agriculture is one of the important tasks of the government and other stakeholders in India. But there are less number of studies with conclusive evidence on the problems rural youth face while practicing agriculture. Hence, a study on problems and suggestions for retaining rural youth in agriculture was taken up. It was found that most the respondents expressed lack of irrigation facilities, price fluctuations, involvement of intermediaries in marketing, inadequate crop insurance and insufficient inputs as the constraints. Regarding suggestions, it was found that rejuvenation of rural youth clubs, timely input supply, creation of infrastructure facilities in the village and ICT based transfer of technology would retain the rural youth in agriculture.
