FROM THE BIG SIR

Remember that this month’s meeting is the third Monday in May. The meeting was moved to May 19 because of Memorial Day. Spring has sprung and summer is just around the bend. I want to encourage all of you to attend the picnic on July 28. For all of us who like to enjoy the out of doors, drink beer, eat great food, and enjoy the camaraderie of our fellow SIR’s this is a must attend. I have attended the last three and have had great times.

I would also like to ask members to step up and serve as an officer for next year. If you have interest, get in touch with me.

I think most of our “snow birds” will have returned to the beautiful Sierra Nevada. Welcome back; I look forward to seeing you at the meeting and on the golf course.

See you all on the 19th

RON THOMPSON

SIR Branch 160 Board of Directors/Executive Committee Meeting South Lake Tahoe, CA.

The scheduled meeting of SIR Branch 160 for February was held at Tep’s Villa Roma restaurant.

BIG SIR; Ron Thompson called the meeting to order at 10:02 AM. A quorum of the Branch Executive Committee (BEC) was present.

The minutes of the March 24, 2014 meeting were tabled for review and comment. A motion to approve the minutes as they stood was made and approved by the membership.

Treasurer’s Report: Mike Davis reported an April first account balance of $1947 and month end balance of $1882. At Ron Thompson’s request to ensure due diligence Mike will conduct a review of both the golf and bowling groups financials on year-end basis.

Big Sir Report: Ron noted our guest speaker would be Meg Ragonese from the Nevada Department of Transportation. Meg will provide us with some insights into local major road works in particular focusing on the upcoming work on Kingsbury Grade. Ron nominated Dick Price as assistant secretary and received unanimous approval. Dick Price was sworn into office. Some discussions were made on the subject of the picnic and are recorded under Old business…. Picnic planning.

Activities Report: No report this month.

Membership Report: The question of attendance criteria being at least six of the twelve meetings during the year was discussed especially in consideration of our snowbirds. It was agreed to form a committee to draft a rule providing guidance for Branch 160. Rom Thompson will take the lead.

Attendance: Ron Rathburn states we have 113 total members. Ron also states, that we have 5 snowbirds still in various desert locations and 2 members on medical leave. Giving us a total of 106 active members. The subject of Name Tag distribution at our monthly luncheon was tabled as being a time consuming chore. Ron Thompson will take the lead on investigating improvements to see if we can make it more workable.

Sunshine Report: Mike Vadnais reported that the business of sending get-well cards had a slow month, which is good news for 160. It was noted that Dave Dugan was still under the weather.

Bowling Report: Bobby Silvius reported that our local bowling league had two dozen participants in attendance. In a question on clarification on finances Bobby stated that the bowling group does not give funds to the 160 treasuries. Sig also noted the same for the golf group.

Golf Report: Sig Heidemann noted that there was an upcoming state tournament to be held in Reno with a cost of over $600 for hotel and golf. Sig was asked if we could get a price without lodgings to make it more affordable for 160 hackers to participate. Dave Tiongco recalled that we had done just that a couple of years ago and our members preferred to participate in the 160 scheduled tournaments.

Website: Bob Fleischer that our website was up and running just fine and peachy. (Maybe we have a candidate to help with Obamacare)

2. Old Business: Picnic Planning: Several topics were tabled and discussed. It was agreed that we offer a main course selection of chicken, steak or ribs. Bill Sluka would assign the food buyers. It was agreed we would buy paper table clothes to dress up the picnic site. Ron Thompson noted that he had a picnic to do check off list which he would distribute. Larry Coffman volunteered to clean up the Picnic Food Order Form for inclusion in the upcoming newsletter.

New Business: None raised

The executive board meeting was adjourned by Ron Thompson at 10:56 AM.
