Julia Michaels released her debut single ‘Issues’ on Polydor/Republic Records on January 13th 2017 to widespread acclaim, garnering over 53 million total plays on Spotify with 12 million monthly listeners. The track hit Top 20 in the Spotify Global and US charts and Top 40 in the Spotify UK chart making Julia their 73rd biggest artist in the world. ‘Issues’ was the #1 Most Added at US Top 40 radio, reaching #18 in the Top 40 airplay chart and rising, and the track has peaked at #18 on iTunes US and #5 iTunes Australia, achieving #1 on Shazam Australia, #8 on Shazam US and #34 on Shazam worldwide.

All of this is no mean feat for a 23 year old, but it’s safe to say that Julia has, over the past two years, redefined the pop landscape and solidified herself as one of pop music’s most in-demand songwriters, making her solo effort is one of the year’s most anticipated releases. To date, the songs Julia has co-written have garnered the consumption equivalent of over fifty million songs sold worldwide and eight billion streams. Her hits include inescapable smashes like Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’, Nick Jonas ft. Tove Lo ‘Close’, Selena Gomez’s ‘Good for You’ [feat. A$AP Rocky] & ‘Hands To Myself’, Hailee Steinfeld ‘Love Myself’, Britney Spears ‘Slumber Party’, Gwen Stefani ‘Used To Love You’ and more. Her first step into the spotlight was performing alongside Kygo at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

‘Issues’ is the hypnotic lead single from Julia Michael’s debut EP release. ‘Issues’ was co-written with longstanding partner in crime Justin Tranter and produced by Stargate and Benny Blanco while the subject of the song’s turmoil, Julia’s boyfriend, was in the next room. Originally intended to be delivered to another artist, Julia felt compelled to hang onto it, which took her by surprise as before it was written she had no intention of launching a solo career. “I wasn’t considering being an artist until I wrote this song,” she explains. “I’ve always been the person who made themselves invisible and let others be the shining light, but “Issues” changed a lot of things for me. It took this song to make me realise that this is who I am, and that I've spent a long time suppressing it.”
