2010 By Laws

Be it resolved that each team accepted to play in the Wrentham Men’s Softball League is bound by the rules and regulations herein stated. Be it further resolved that all revenues tendered to this league shall remain the sole property of the Wrentham Men’s Softball League. Violation of any rule or rules is subject to loss of franchise and expulsion from the league.

League Officers and Meetings

1. The league board of directors shall consist of the following officers elected for a term of one year each and have the following responsibilities.

President – Rich Pokorny Vice President – Ed Cousineau Treasurer – Charlie Fruci Secretary – Paul Newman  Conduct all meetings  Handle league correspondence : accept all fees, pay all bills, and issue all receipts  Ensure the smooth running of the league  Perform other duties at the request of the teams.

Board member – all team captains  Review and update league by laws along with the president  Perform other duties at the request of the President

2. If any elected office becomes vacant, a special meeting will be held within 30 days to fill the vacancy. Until an election is held, the president shall assume all the duties of the vacant office. In absence of the President, the board shall assume the duties of the president’s office.

3. An elected officer may be removed from office by a simple majority vote of the league representatives.

4. All board members must make every effort to make scheduled meetings.

6. Each board member shall be allowed 1 vote at the league meeting.

League Rules and Regulations

1. The Board of Directors will propose the number of games to be played, and the playoff format at the beginning of the season.

2. Each team shall be required to submit a $400 deposit by March 1st, 2010. The balance of the leagues fee must be paid in full by April 1st, 2010.

3. There will be an open roster with a maximum of 20 players. Teams are required to submit a copy of their Final roster by May 17th, 2010.

Page 1 of 3 Wrentham Men’s Softball League 4. The rosters will be frozen May 17th, 2010. Any changes after the final roster has been submitted must have the approval of the board of directors. A list of all rosters will be distributed by the league to all team captains.

5. Any team using an ineligible player will forfeit each game that the player has appeared in.

6. Official staring time is 8pm with a 15 minute grace time. The leagues officers will have until 4:30pm to cancel games due to inclement weather. After 4:30pm the games are in the hands of the umpires. ALL teams are required to show up at the field ready to play no matter what the weather conditions outside are. Failure to show up and field a team and the umpires deem the field playable will result in a forfeit for that game.

7. If a team forfeits both games of a double header, it will count as 1 forfeit towards being expelled. Once a team forfeits 2 games, that team will be brought in front of the Board of Directors with the possibility of expulsion and playoff eligibility. All imposed fines must be paid in full prior to the start of their next scheduled game.

8. Any player or coach who is ejected 2 times during the course of the season shall face suspension from play pending a decision by a grievance committee.

9. Unsportsmanlike conduct toward the league, league officials, players, or umpires will not be tolerated. Individuals who use repeated vulgarity or threatening actions before, during, or after a game will face suspension. Any individual intentionally pushing, shoving, or striking an umpire, player, or league official shall be immediately suspended. A grievance committee will decide his future status.

10. If a team is penalized for vulgarity, an out will be assessed to the offending team. If the offending team is batting, a team out will be assessed, and the batting order will continue. If the offending team is in the field, a team out will be assessed and the team will begin their batting order with 1 out. A 2 nd warning will result in player and/or team ejection.

11. If a grievance or protest has been filed, a grievance committee will be selected by the President. The committee must meet within 48 hours of the incident. A protest must be accompanied by $20, which will be returned if the protest is upheld. Protests must be filed within 48 hours of the incident and must be delivered to the President.

12. Playoff seeding:

a. By regular season record. b. If two way tie for playoff positions it will be will be determined by:  Head to head season competition.  Total Runs against.  Coin flip. c. If multiple teams are involved:  Head to head season competition.  Total Runs against.  Coin flip

13. A scorebook will be kept by both managers and will be used to determine playoff eligibility. If a player is injured, and does not attend any games, only the games he attended will be counted towards playoff eligibility. If a player is only present at 1 game, he only receives credit for 1 game.

14. A player must play in 7 games to be eligible for the playoffs. Any team using an ineligible player will forfeit the games he played in. A list of eligible players will be released by the league before the playoffs.

15. Team trophy will be presented to the winner of the playoffs only.

16. For the Playoff FINALS only two (2) umpires will be utilized.

18. ASA rules will be followed unless there is a specific by law listed below.

19. Each team is responsible for providing team shirts at their own expense.

Page 2 of 3 Wrentham Men’s Softball League 20. Bases will be set up and measured by the Home team. Tapes and Bases are located in Field boxes.

21. Bases will be set 65’ apart, from point of plate to back of the base.

22. Pitcher’s mound will be 50’ from home plate. ASA rule.

23. The league will supply 1 new game ball for each game. They will be .40 COR, .375 compression. Home team is responsible for the game ball and a backup. For the playoffs each team will supply a NEW game ball.

24. Any bat that has been ASA approved at the start of the season may be used. A list of approved and disapproved bats will be supplied by the league and given to each team captain. This can be found at the ASA web site.

25. The pitching height will be 6 feet no higher than 12 feet.

26. NO ALCOHOLIC beverages will be allowed on or near the benches, playing field or parking lot. Players consuming alcohol during the course of a game or after the game will be ejected. Team will also be subject to expulsion from the league.

27. Movable bases. If the base moves and runner isn’t advancing he must go to the spot the base should be moved back to. If the result of a base moving and other runners are advancing, subsequent runners should touch the spot the base was originally at.

28. There is a third strike foul rule in this league. If after 2 strikes your 2nd foul, your out.

29. When a player plays in a game with one team, he is ineligible to play with any other team during that season. Any violation will result in an immediate and automatic forfeit.

30. This is a Men’s over 30 league.

31. Two (2) team members can be between 25 and 30 and one under 30 players can be the son of a Dad on the team. This exception ONLY the son must be 18 years old to participate in the league.

32. All players on each team will be required to wear sponsor shirts. Any player without a shirt may be subject to having their license checked by the opposing coach.

33. The following will not be permitted: No metal spikes.

34. A 15 run rule will be in effect after 5 innings, with the losing team having an equal or greater amount of at bats. There will be no mercy rule in effect for the playoffs.

35. Unlimited courtesy runners. The courtesy runner will be the last out made. If you intend to use a courtesy runner you must use announce prior to your first at bat. Only exception will be if you get injured during the game.

36. No stealing, No Leading

37. If it’s a close play you must slide or you will be called out. No taking out the catcher.

38. Cleaning up after the game. Please cleanup the bench/field area after the game even if it was left before your game.

39. The Board of Directors shall have the authority to rule on any situation not specifically described in these by laws, or which they deem to be in the interest of the league.

These by laws are set and will require a majority vote by the board members to be changed.
