Spring Disco

The FOBS disco last Friday night was an extremely lively, enjoyable evening! Thank you to those families who supported the event and also to parents and staff who helped – Ms Jarvis, Mr and Mrs Atkinson, Mrs Quinn, Ms Kaye`s daughter Beth and her friend, Mrs Costello, Mr Hoyle and a special “thank you” to Linda Overend and Ms Kaye who did a huge amount of work beforehand with the organisation and setting up. We will let you know next week how much was raised.

The raffle for the WW2 flight experience raised £92 and was won by Mrs Maher. Thank you again for your support. We are very grateful to Mrs Garthwaite who donated the prize.

“ Being Safe” Assembly

Mrs Womersley gave an assembly yesterday morning based on “Being Safe”. She spoke about rules for the play equipment, how to play correctly, keeping our feelings safe and using the “worry” jar. We teach children in school how to use special equipment e.g. scissors, knives when cooking. They are taught to swim when they reach year 5 and we have bike and pedestrian safety sessions. Recently we had a fire drill and the children are shown where the fire extinguishers are sited. The children are regularly reminded of “Stranger Danger”.

Lastly, Mrs Womersley spoke to the children about safety on the internet. Children were reminded to be sure of who they are messaging and that “friends” really are people that they know. We are aware that some of our children have sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram etc and we would ask that parents check the privacy settings on these accounts and discuss with children the dangers of talking to strangers. Over the next few weeks we shall be looking at this in more detail, and hopefully having a parents` evening on this subject next half term.

Golden Book

Congratulations to our “Golden Book” children this week who are:

Class 1 Macy Grayson and Hayden Rook Class 2 Grace Quinn and Archie Sykes Class 3 Wilf Stokes and Amelie Gladman Class 4 Sophie Clarke and Austin Atkinson

Sainsbury`s Vouchers . We are very grateful to those people, both in school and in the community, who have given us their Sainsbury`s Active Kids vouchers. The scheme is now drawing to a close for this year and we shall shortly be counting the vouchers and the children will be deciding how they wish to “spend” them. Please check pockets, under car seats (!), bags etc and bring any remaining vouchers to school. Scarecrow Festival

Parents will have received a letter regarding the Scarecrow Festival and gala which is to be held in the village over the weekend of 20/21st June. As a school we look forward very much to being involved, and hope to have a scarecrow workshop later next month.

Bagshaw Museum

A reminder to parents of children in Years 3 and 4 to return the permission slips for the visit to Bagshaw Museum on 20th May please.

Violin

Miss Ghent will not be in school next Thursday for the children who have violin lessons as the Music Service has an INSET day on that day. Children will get extra tuition over following weeks to make up for the missed session.

And finally ……….

Attached is the analysis of the recent parent questionnaire.

We are of course closed on Monday next week for the May Day Holiday.
