31 – TYPES OF AWARDS

31.4 – Length of Service Awards

Every Mark Twain National Forest permanent employee shall receive a timely Length of Service award for every five years of service. (Federal service includes civilian and honorable military service).

Length of service awards include a certificate and an emblem, charm or pin, and an item of nominal value, following the suggested non-monetary scale for length of service (see below), not exceeding $100.00 for any one award. Appropriate items of nominal value could include a pen set, clock, paperweight, or other item, with engraving of agency logo, name of employee, and years of service. Items must show lasting trophy value (can be displayed in office setting).

Awards should be presented at least quarterly (90 days), if there are recipients, and may be accompanied with a ceremony, or in conjunction with regularly scheduled district or S.O. “family” or safety meeting.

Length of Service awards may be signed by District Ranger, Deputy Forest Supervisor or Forest Supervisor. Length of service awards greater than 25 years of service may be signed by Regional Forester or Chief.

It is the responsibility of the immediate supervisor to ensure recognition for Length of Service awards are prepared and presented in a timely manner.
