SPECIAL EVENTS

 SPOKANE TO SANDPOINT RELAY – FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 The 200 mile relay starts atop Mt. Spokane, Washington and ends at the beach in Sandpoint, Idaho. No streets will be closed for this event.

 COPS-N-KIDS CAR SHOW – SATURDAY, AUGUST 15 This event is a wonderful opportunity for police officers to talk and interact with kids, and view the best show cars. Riverside Avenue will be closed between Washington and Bernard Street from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.

 STORMWATER LANDSCAPING – DRIVERS BE CAUTIOUS Four Seasons Landscaping will be mowing, watering and weeding at various stormwater sites throughout the city this week. Drivers should be careful in order to protect these workers.

 SCHOOL IS OUT - PARKS SPEED LIMITS School is out for the summer. Drivers should slow down around parks, parks with splash pads and libraries. The City Street Department has been installing 20 MPH signs at the following parks and playgrounds: Cannon, Chief Gary, Mission, Shadle, Audubon, Comstock Park and Pool, Hays, and Lincoln.

OBSTRUCTION UPDATE

 2015 RESIDENTIAL GRIND AND OVERLAY There are three residential grind and overlay pavement preservation projects this construction season. Work also includes subgrade repair, crack sealing, modifying ADA ramps, striping and traffic control.

o Tuesday, August 18 till Friday, August 28 . Harley Street from Royal Drive to Lyons Avenue o Friday, August 28 till Friday, September 11 . Dakota Street from Montgomery Avenue to North Foothills Drive o Friday, September 11 till Tuesday, October 6 . F Street from Rosamond Avenue to 6th Avenue The $691,000 project is being funded with Transportation Benefit District funding.

 WALL STREET CSO HAS BEGUN Work will has begun on Wall Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and the Main Street intersection for the installation of a CSO sewer main and clean water main. This project is part of the Cleaner River Faster Project improving the overall quality of our river.

The following closures can be expected: o From now to late October . Wall Street from Main Street to Spokane Falls Boulevard o From now to Wednesday, August 19 . Main Street from Post to Howard Street . Post Street northbound from Riverside to Main Avenue

Main Street will reopen Thursday, August 20 Contractor crews will work through the weekend in an effort to have Main Street open up as soon as possible.

There will be no vehicle access and no on street parking available. However, pedestrian access will be maintained.

 PHASE I OF ROWAN AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS FROM DRISCOLL BOULEVARD TO MONROE STREET HAS BEGUN Rowan Avenue from Driscoll Boulevard to Alberta Street will last until October.

This project includes reconstruction of the street from Driscoll Blvd. to Monroe Street. The project also includes installation of bike lanes, filling sidewalk gaps and replacing water lanes.

The $2.7 million project is a City funded project

PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION

 URBAN OUTFITTERS o Walker Construction has set up construction fencing around 702 W Main. The fencing is scheduled to be up until demolition and construction of Urban Outfitters is complete in late June of 2016.

OTHER OBSTRUCTION CLOSURES  Inland Asphalt will be closing Ivory from Plateau to Rockwood Pines for street re- alignment until Monday, August 17.  Vietzke Excavating is closing a parking lane and sidewalk on Sprague between Washington and Bernard to remove coldmix concrete from the sidewalk until Monday, August 17.

 NLP Construction will be working at the intersection of Shawnee and Indian Trail, the intersection will be limited to one lane on Monday, August 17. Shawnee will be closed east of Indian Trail on Monday too. The project will be finished on Tuesday, August 18.

 Baker Construction will be closing the sidewalk on the eastern side of Division from Mission to Augusta, with a hard closure from Mission to the Alley, and a soft closure from alley north to Augusta. Alley closure as needed. This closure will end Tuesday, August 18.

 Spokane Ditch and Cable is closing the northern lane on westbound Spokane Falls Blvd. There will be flagging on Riverpoint, Olive, and Spokane Falls in order to place two vaults and pull cable until Wednesday, August 19.

 Spokane Ditch and Cable is closing the eastern northbound lane of Nevada south of Hawthorne to do a road bore; place a vault, and pull cable until Wednesday, August 19.

 MJM Grand will be closing 50% at a time of Front Street east of Spokane Falls Boulevard until Friday, August 21 for water main work.

 Garco is continuing their 100% closure of Madison from 3rd Ave. to Freeway Ave until Monday, August 31.

 RAAB Enterprises is closing two lanes on Sunset Highway near Grove Road to install a water main until Monday, September 7.

 Terra Bella will be closing the northern lane of Spokane Falls Blvd west of northbound Division until Sunday, September 20. They will be working on the right-of-way triangle.

 Avista has begun pulling wire in manholes in the downtown area, affecting 1st Avenue and Wall Street.

 1ST AVENUE FROM HELENA TO ALTAMONT CONTINUES This project is a residential grind and overlay pavement preservation project. The work will include minor subgrade repair, crack sealing, ADA ramps, striping and traffic control as necessary.

Closure of 1st Avenue will last until September. The corner of Napa and 1st will be closed to thru traffic with a detour traffic route provided.

This $650,000 project is being funded with TBD funds

 MONROE/LINCOLN STREET COUPLET, 4 TH AVENUE TO 2 ND AVENUE CONTINUES Work to allow drainage structure and piping installation has begun on Cedar Street from 4th Avenue north to the ally is closed. Removals will also start in the southwest corner of 4th Avenue and Monroe Street. Local access in these areas will remain possible.

The project includes reconstruction of the street from 2nd to 4th Avenues and will replace the asphalt surfacing, including ADA ramps as needed.

The $4.52 million project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond, Capital Programs, Storm Water Improvements, and Water Department

 THE RESIDENTIAL CHIP SEAL PROGRAM CONTINUES The project will be in three different district locations. District one, Regal Street from Rowan Avenue to Francis Avenue; District two, 33rd Avenue to 36th Avenue from Grand Boulevard to Perry Street; and, District three, Elm Street from Broadway Avenue to Boone Avenue.

Chip sealing will consist of one-fourth chip repairs and a fog seal. This project also includes minor pavement repair and crack sealing.

This $576,000 project is being funded with Transportation Benefit District funds.

 FRANCIS AVENUE – DIVISION TO EAST CITY LIMITS ITS DEVICES AND COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT CONTINUES

This project calls for installation of Variable Message Signs, Closed Circuit TV systems, fiber optic cables, and other related miscellaneous items. Motorist will see intermittent lane closures for the duration of the project.

This $650,000 project is being funded with Federal and Local funds

 PHASE II OF HIGH DRIVE, BERNARD STREET TO GRAND BOULEVARD CONTINUES The road is closed from Bernard Street to Grand Boulevard with local access only. Storm and sewer work is underway.

This integrated project includes pavement reconstruction, storm, sewer, 208 swales, and water main replacement from Bernard Street to Grand Boulevard. Phase Two construction is expected last through the fall.

The $5 million project is being funded with Federal funds and various City funds, including the 10-Year Street Bond

 HAVANA STREET IMPROVEMENTS FROM GLENROSE ROAD TO 37 TH AVENUE CONTINUES Glenrose Road from 57th Avenue to Havana Street is closed to thru traffic. Work has begun at the intersection of Freya and 44th with traffic and pedestrian improvements. Traffic will be impacted on both streets and will be controlled by flaggers and signs.

Improvements include full width pavement replacement, complete sidewalk gaps and pilot project porous asphalt bicycle lanes. This project will also include installation of a 36 inch water transmission main between 37th Avenue and the Brown Park reservoirs at 57th Avenue.

The $3.7 million project is funded with Local and State DWSRF funds

 HARTSON AVENUE FROM ALTAMONT STREET TO FISKE STREET WILL BEGIN IN AUGUST

This project includes full depth roadway section of traveled way, fill sidewalk gaps, replace curbing where needed and install ADA curb ramps. The project will also include replacement of water lines.

The $830,000 project is being funded with City Wastewater and Water funds

 PHASE I OF INDIANA AVENUE FROM DIVISION STREET TO PERRY STREET CONTINUES Indiana is closed to thru traffic from Division to Dakota.

This project will include full depth roadway replacement and change lane configuration to one lane each direction with bike lanes.

The $2.0 million project is being funded by the City

 PHASE I OF RAY/THOR STREET FROM 29 TH AVENUE TO 3 RD AVENUE WILL BEGIN THIS SUMMER Improvements include the use of preservation treatments that include crack sealing, find and overlay and pavement rejuvenation techniques. Pedestrian improvements include upgrades to ADA curb ramps and minor curb and sidewalk repairs.

The $687,000 project is funded by the Federal Surface Transportation Program

 I-90/SUNSET HILL TO DIVISION STREET WSDOT crews will be doing bridge joint repairs and concrete pavement. Drivers should expect left lane and center lane restrictions with possible intermittent ramp closures from Sunday, August 16 at 10 p.m. till Thursday, August 20 at 5 a.m. o Tuesday, August 18 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. westbound Division/Browne Street on ramp and the westbound Lincoln Street off ramp will be closed. o Wednesday, August 19 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the westbound Monroe/ Jefferson on ramp and the westbound Maple/Walnut off ramp will be closed.

 US 2 – DIVISION STREET/ NORTH RIVER DRIVE TO EUCLID AVENUE & WEDGEWOOD, COZZA INTERSECTION Crews will be updating ADA sidewalk ramps. Friday, August 21 drivers should expect lane restrictions on Division and/or Ruby Street.

 I-90/BROADWAY, ARGONNE, EVERGREEN & SULLIVAN INTERCHANGE SIDEWALK ADA RAMPS Crews will be updating ADA sidewalk ramps. Sunday, August 23 drivers should expect lane restrictions near freeway ramps and intersection. All ramps will remain open and no freeway mainline restrictions.

 SR 206/BRUCE RD TO MT. SPOKANE STATE PARK GATE WSDOT crews will be performing a chip and seal project. This will be a high impact project and drivers should expect delays. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph.

 US 195-SOUTHBOUND/1-90 TO EXCELSIOR ROAD This project includes concrete pavement rehabilitation and multiple pavement panel replacement for southbound 195. Traffic will be reduced to one through lane in multiple work areas.

 NSC/BNSF RAILWAY STRUCTURES/REALIGNMENT & PED/BIKE TRAIL EXTENSION Construction of two freeway mainline bridges and two pedestrian bridges over the BNSF tracks. Realign BNSF mainline and spur tracks. Extend the Children of the Sun Trail into the Hillyard area. There will be no traffic impacts.

 SR 290-TRENT AVE./SULLIVAN ROAD TO IDAHO STATE LINE WSDOT crews will be doing asphalt paving beginning Monday, August 17. Drivers should expect up to 20 minute delays with flaggers and pilot cars directing single lane traffic.

TRAFFIC CALMING AND SIDEWALK

 2015 ARTERIAL CURB RAMP PROJECTS CONTINUE This project calls for Installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps at each intersection corner ahead of the City of Spokane scheduled street maintenance grind and overlay projects. This project is funded with local funds. o Work is completed on Wellesley Ave. o Work continues at Perry and Augusta o Work started on Monroe Street and Lacrosse Avenue. One lane access in both directions along Monroe will be maintained.

The construction estimate for this project is $350,000

 CONNECT TO TRANSIT, PHASE II, CITYWIDE IS S UBSTANTIALLY COMPLETE, PUNCH LIST ITEMS REMAIN New ADA approved curb ramps will be installed on Sinto from Pearl to Cincinnati this week. There will be no lane closures.

This federally funded project consists of the construction of ADA accessible curb ramps, sidewalk, pavement patching, utility adjustments, and other related items.

This $ 383,775 project is being funded with Federal Transportation Administration funds

 TRAFFIC CALMING PROJECTS ARE COMPLETE This project construct crosswalks, sidewalks, curb ramps, and place signage around the city.

The construction estimate for this project is between $500,000 and $800,000.

 DOWNTOWN PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS WILL BEGIN 2015 This project will design and construct pedestrian improvement in the Downtown Core consisting primarily of structural sidewalk repair/replacement. The project also includes minor sidewalk repair, street tree infill, and replacement of hazardous street tree grates and installation of bike racks, planters and garbage cans.

This $1.4 million project is being funded with Federal, State and Local funds

TRAIL/PATH

 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (CD) SIDEWALKS WILL BEGIN MONDAY, AUGUST 17 Work on the intersection of Arthur and Plateau will start Monday, August 17.

This project is the removal and construction of concrete curb, sidewalk and ADA curb ramps.

This $300,000 to $400,000 project is being funded with Community Development Block Grant funding.

 ADDISON/STANDARD BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN CORRIDOR FROM BUCKEYE TO HOLLAND WILL BEGIN LATE AUGUS T This project will complete a major bicycle and pedestrian corridor. It will install missing bike lanes and sidewalks along the entire corridor and make improvements to existing bike lanes.

This project is being funded with Federal funds

COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOW (CSO) www.spokaneengineering.org  UNDERHILL COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOW (CSO) 34-2 TANK CONTINUES Freya Street will be closed from Hartson Street to 29th Avenue through the end of August.

Utility work and road reconstruction on Freya Street from 8th Ave. to 9th Ave. is underway. Local access will be restricted. This project constructed a combined sewer overflow facility under the parking lot at Underhill Park.

The $7.7 million project is being paid for by the Water-Wastewater Integrated Capital Fund.

 CSO 20/24 HIGH DRIVE & HATCH ROAD CONTINUES 43rd Ave. from Garfield St. to Perry St. will be closed to thru traffic until late September. Thru traffic is advised to use the Perry Street detour. This project will construct a storage facility for CSO Basin 20, with connecting piping, interceptor inlet vault, flush systems, regulator and controls at 43rd Avenue and Garfield Street.

This work is part of the Combined Sewer Overflow program for a Cleaner River Faster Integrated Approach to Street Repair.

This project is funded with Wastewater funds, Federal and Local funds

 CSO 6, CONTROL FACILITY AND INTEGRATED INTERCEPTOR, FROM KIERNAN AVENUE TO NORTHWEST BOULEVARD CONTINUES Columbia from Downriver Drive to H Street and H Street from Columbia to Northwest Blvd is closed to thru traffic.

The project includes the installation of a 900,000 gallon tank. New water mains will be added at H Street, Glass Avenue and Columbia Circle these lines will be connected to the new main along Columbia Circle. Columbia Circle, H Street and Glass Avenue will be repaved and sidewalk repairs will happen in select areas. Many driveways will be replaced to match the new street grade.

The 9.5 million project is being paid for by the Water – Wastewater Integrated Capital Fund

 EAST SPRAGUE AVENUE CSO BASIN 33-2 CONTROL FACILITY

This project will construct a combined sewer overflow facility on City property across from the City’s Sewer Maintenance Facility. One lane will be open in each direction on E. Sprague from Scott Street to the Hamilton Overpass.

The $3.7 million project is being paid for by the Water-Wastewater Integrated Capital Fund.

WATER

 GARDEN PARK BOOSTER STATION REHABILITATION AT 2403 EAST 37 TH SUSPENDED

This project is to rehabilitate the existing booster station with a new building, pumps, and motors. 37TH Avenue between Cook Street and Crestline is now open. This work is for installation of a new transmission main and connection to the new Booster Station.

The $500,000 project is being funded by City funds

 PANORAMA DRIVE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT All roads in project limits will remain closed with local access only. The water main installation along Panorama Drive is complete and concrete and storm drainage installations continue. Water main installation in Sierra from Maple to Panorama will begin soon.

The construction estimate for this project is $965,000.

STREET DEPARTMENT WORK

 GRIND AND OVERLAY WORK CONTINUES This week streets are starting Hayford Rd. from McFarlane Rd. to 2650’ north of Thorpe. One lane of traffic will be maintained with the help of flaggers.

 SWEEPING CREWS All residential sweeping routes are finished.

 RESIDENTIAL CRACK SEALING CONTINUES Work will continue in the Bedford area bounded by Indian Trail Rd. to Woodridge and Ridgecrest Drive to Brookfield.

 ARTERIAL CRACK SEALING CONTINUES Work is continuing on Alberta from NW Boulevard to Francis Avenue.

Utility Crews Work is on-going throughout the city for sewer and water repairs

Street crews are repairing potholes. Crews focus on the largest potholes on the busiest streets throughout the City first. Please report potholes by calling 625- 7733. Include as much information as possible on the location and size of the pothole.

Additional Work Bridge crews are working on the Maple Street Bridge. Skin patching on Empire and Garland from Crestline to Division.
