OPERATION TECHNICIAN

DEFINITION: A permanent full-time position that under the general direction of the Executive Director and Park Rangers supervises and assists in the development, maintenance and operations of areas under management of the Conservation Board. Performs related work as required. The Operations Technician is conjunction with the Park Ranger is responsible for organizing and coordinating work projects and field personnel.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION: This position requires the operation of all types of equipment including: trucks, tractors, mowing equipment, chainsaw, weed eater, power tools, and all types of hand tools. This position requires travel to all areas managed by the Conservation Board within the County. The employee will be required to work in all types of environmental conditions, and be willing to do strenuous physical labor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Care and maintenance of all areas managed by the Conservation Board, including mowing, cleaning, equipment and facility repairs, painting, and other work as required.

Supervises seasonal employees on work projects in all areas managed by the Conservation Board.

Develops a project work list with the Park Ranger to assist in prioritizing work projects.

Works with the Park Rangers on special projects related to park development.

Responsible for opening and closing parks annually.

Responsible for inspecting and maintaining boundary fences on areas managed by the Conservation Board.

Responsible for park sign construction, placement, and maintenance.

Performs other duties as directed by the Executive Director and/or Park Rangers.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Availability to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays as needed.

Answer questions from the public concerning areas managed by the Conservation Board.

Assist with administrative duties as requested by the Executive Director. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of all the Conservation Board’s policies, procedures, and regulations.

Considerable knowledge of equipment and vehicle usage, maintenance and repair.

Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques used in construction of buildings, and facilities within managed areas.

Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems used in park areas.

Ability to express yourself both verbally and in writing.

Good leadership skills and abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include graduation from High School or GED equivalent with at least one (1) year of experience in the park management or similar field of experience preferred.

A valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License.

Possession of a Category Six and Category Two Pesticide Applicators license.

SALARY: Starting salary $10.00 per hour

BENEFITS: Applicant is eligible for full county benefits including health, dental, vision and life insurance. Uniform allowance is also included.
