Dilute and Refute

There are things that we would not do to Shakespeare’s works that we have no qualms doing with God’s word. Shakespeare is a classic and in any other translation it simply will not be a work of art. To even entertain altering the language of such great classics is considered sacrilege. Yet we do it all the time with God’s word and we say that we only want to make it relevant to our times. You do not make a thing relevant by changing the language; you make a thing relevant by introduction, revelation, and understanding. When we take the time to introduce the word of God to others it will speak for itself. God’s revelation will come and understanding will be established no matter how classical the language. The reason we are turning to so many diverse translations is because we think God needs our help. We think His language is antiquated and obsolete. Yet the words are the same words that God used from the beginning of creation and before that and will continue to use in eternity. So why is there a push to get a way from it? There is a push because the more you simplify a thing the less potent it is. The salt looses it savor. The light becomes dim in a dying world. Hope is no longer hope it becomes what might be, que sera, sera. But hope is not whatever will be will be. Hope is what is to come. It is God’s definite divine plan that we can count on for certain. It is reading His word and knowing that He wrote His heart to us in a collection of literary books called the Bible. Before Shakespeare was, God is. You can only dilute a thing so far. After a while the very fabric it was made of can no longer be recognized. The blood of Christ has been washed away to the extent that there is no longer a God. Satan has schemed over the centuries to dummy down the intellect of humanity. We’ve had unschooled and unchurched people along side the revealed word of God. Go figure! We’ve had centuries of Catholicism that keep the word of God from the commoners, the masses. The word was read in a language foreign to the people. We have the dark ages that was dark not because of the lack of light but because of ignorance. Clearly, nothing has changed. We have become more technologically efficient and biologically cleaver, but even such intelligence is foolishness to the intellect of God’s word. The world does not want to hear what we have to say about the Bible because they know we are giving them a diluted revelation. They know that we have altered God’s word to make ourselves seem cleaver and because mostly we do not truly understand for our own selves. But is God’s word really that difficult to comprehend? No! I say emphatically, no! How can what is revealed be difficult if it is revealed. It is because we do not study to show ourselves approved unto God. We come to His word with our preconceived notions and try to force our square pegs into His round book. As long as the church complains that we do not understand what we are reading, they will be someone who will continue to water the word down for us and we will continue to drink until we are consuming empty calories. Only the Holy Spirit can teach you the word just like you have to understand the language of Shakespeare to read and appreciate Shakespeare. 2 Timothy 3:16 states, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” It is because of this that the enemy is trying to make the word of God unprofitable. We want an unsweetened word when God has given us his word that is sweeter than honey. We don’t want a natural product we want a manufactured one because it will not constrain us to godliness. We want only a form of godliness and enough said. We dilute God’s word and then we refute it.
