 Information and Support  Portfolio Completion  Assessment  Post Assessment  Certification

What is Skills Recognition and Recognition of Prior Learning? People learn in a number of different ways and through a number of different environments (contexts).

Often the skills and knowledge they gain in one environment or situation can be successfully transferred and applied to another situation.

Skills recognition is an assessment and recognition process, which acknowledges a person’s skills and knowledge that have been acquired through

 life experiences;  work experiences; and  informal and formal training.

Skills recognition, in the context of this application, acknowledges your existing skills and knowledge as they relate to the competencies associated with the Certificate II in Security (Operations) CPP20211

There are five steps in this Skills Recognition Process.

Step 1: Information and Support The first thing you need to consider is how your prior experience relates to the learning outcomes/competency standards of the course or courses from which you are seeking exemption (RPL – Recognition of the entire course Or RCC- Recognition of part of the course).

If you decide to apply for Skills Recognition you will be asked to complete an application form, with details of your experience which might be relevant, plus a portfolio of supporting evidence. If you are unable to provide written evidence for any reason, please contact the Training Manager on (08) 9227 51 25 regarding alternative methods to submit your evidence.

Any evidence that you can provide as proof should be submitted as part of your application.

Step2: Portfolio Completion At this stage, work through the RPL/RCC application package and highlight all the experience and learning that are relevant to each UNIT for which you are seeking Skills Recognition. Clearly outline the supporting evidence you are submitting to substantiate your claim.

Evidence refers to the various methods of demonstrating the required skills or competencies, these may include: In fact anything ‘positive’  Qualifications that you may be able to  Certificates provide that links in with the  Test of individual skills  References/testimonials elements for a particular  work-related simulations (role play) unit WILL be considered  direct questioning and MAY be granted at the  performance appraisals discretion of the  assignments  job descriptions from previous employment Assessor….even if you think  photographs it may not be evidence,  videos and include it in your portfolio,  reports. clearly indicating the unit  resume (up-to-date) that it relates to and the element that it relates to. D:\Docs\2018-01-08\004fa243b57a5e3093c3b5984313816e.doc 7 Paragon Corporate Training Self Development - the edge Your application needs to be clear and well presented (organised with evidence clearly linked to competencies being claimed – reader friendly)

When you have completed the application form and attached all relevant information, send the information to:

The Training Manager Paragon Corporate Training C4 58 Newcastle Street PERTH WA 6000

Paragon will forward you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application and advising the Assessor’s name. The Assessor will review your application and notify you regarding either an interview or the need to forward additional supporting materials.

Step 3: Assessment Review of portfolio – A systematic review of the evidence will be carried out to consider whether you have achieved the competencies. If your application supports your claim for Skills Recognition, a Paragon qualified Assessor will contact you to arrange an interview to further substantiate your level of skills, knowledge and other attributes, and possibly clarify the evidence with you.

Step 4: Post Assessment At this stage, a decision will be made to either grant or withhold Skills Recognition.

You will be notified of the outcome of the Skills Recognition assessment, and recommendations for further training (if applicable). Paragon will support you with your personal development should you require further training.

Appeal on Skills Recognition not being granted. If you feel that the Assessment was not conducted satisfactorily, you should discuss the decision with the Assessor to find out what areas you need further work.

D:\Docs\2018-01-08\004fa243b57a5e3093c3b5984313816e.doc 8 Paragon Corporate Training Self Development - the edge

If you wish to Appeal the decision, a “Request for Appeal Form” should be obtained from Paragon’s Training Manager (08) 9227 51 25 and completed and forwarded back to.

Executive Officer Paragon Corporate Training C4 58 Newcastle Street PERTH WA 6000

An independent Assessor would then be appointed to:  Consider all documentation provided;  Request further information;  Ensure at all times, that the principles of Skills Recognition were adhered to;  Prepare a formal report on the Appeal;  Prepare formal advice to the Executive Officer of Paragon Corporate Training.

If the Appeal is unsuccessful you exit the process without refund. An unsuccessful Appeal decision is supported with recommendations for action you can take to address the areas in which you were deemed not yet competent.

Any subsequent application for Skills Recognition made by an applicant, who was unsuccessful in an Appeal, will be treated as a new applicant and will proceed accordingly.

All Skills Recognition outcomes will be recorded on the applicant’s record of attainment.

Step 5: Certification Recognition will be given on the outcome of your assessment being considered competent. If you have been granted recognition for the complete course you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.

Fee Structure: The fee for Skills Recognition for the Certificate II in Security (Operations) is $ 415.00. This fee is payable before the qualification will be provided to the Candidate.
