ACFPC Meeting Agenda: 1/8/2013

Minutes: December minutes approved. No additions or deletions.

Escape Fire:

 Third week in March (*19, 20, or 21). Preferably Tuesday the 19th

 Panelists: Jenny Englerth- CEO of Family First, Dr. Dwight Michael, Renee Lehmen- Acupuncturist/alternative medicine expert and hopefully Dr. Karen Jones from Wellspan? – Patient Centered Medical Homes

 Sponsors so far: CPS, Adams Hanover Health Care 4 All PA, Health Sciences dept. Cost is $500. Majestic will pay and then bill us.

 By next week we’ll know if one of filmmakers will be at the screening

 Other possibilities discussed:

o Reception prior to screening – sponsor?

o Panelists to speak on ‘Radio Smart Talk’ program before screening- Transforming Health Project

AC Local Foods Resource Guide for 2013

 Camille has begun updating information

 Committee formation to help put it together: J’Amy Graham Thomas, Etta Saltos and Camille. Additionally, work study student from HACC that has recently been hired to work for Healthy Adams County is interested in local foods and can join committee to help work on project! The student’s name is Emily Fox and is from the area. Committee will plan to meet by end of January to begin delegating tasks.

 Aim for early April for printing

 $1,800 for 15,000 booklets

 Kathleen Glahn provided an idea to publicize to farmers online via the ACFMA website or blog, and possibly ACFPC website, Penn State Ag Extension website in order for new farmers to provide their information for listing. Camille and Local Foods Guide Committee can work to facilitate the organization of this idea.

 Camille will get the link and information to ACFPC with advertisement information.  Ask Agro-businesses for sponsorship

 Possibly include “Did you Know?” with information about Adams County.

 Funding: Stacey Fox from Convention and Visitors Bureau will publicize to members and help distribute. Once she looks at budget for this year, we hope they will help with funding. Possibly some money from HAC – Kathy Gaskin will check.

ACFMA Updates – provided by Kathleen (Kathy) Glahn

 J’Amy Graham Thomas is working as off season market manager.

 Updating blog with Sarah Waybright, Camille, Emma Lower and other contributors.

 ACFMA can get the new article out about Healthy Options via their blog as well as using the article for their February column.

 The relationship between ACFMA and FPC is a model for community efforts.

 Grower’s attitudes are changing and vendors are starting to offer EBT at farm stands.

 ACFMA will have a table at the Wellspan Women’s Health Conference on March 9 in Gettysburg College CUB Ballroom. ACFPC is welcome to advertise as well.

Food Hub update

 Carla Snyder found a potential grant for funding of feasibility. Camille and Carla will meet next week to write the grant which is due Feb 8.

 There is a PAD ready site next to Prison which would be beneficial for County.

Healthy Options

 Committee for 2013? Kim Davidson, Camille, Amy Dailey, Beth Dixon, Tonya Mincey/Gwen McGee?, J’Amy Graham Thomas, Audrey Hess, Sandra Espinosa?

 Kim needs to provide invoice to Kathy Gaskin for additional $1,300

 Funding sources for next year:

o $2,300 remaining from last year

o Campus Kitchen “AARP Hunger Fellowship and Outreach”- $2000 o Hopefully another $3000 from March Matchness

o And, $1,500 from CSAs

 PA NEN contacted Audrey Hess saying the conference committee liked the Healthy Options proposal and invited a display or poster about Healthy Options for the new-this- year local programs section of the conference!

 2013 APHA Annual Meeting, ‘Think Global Act Local: Best Practices Around the World’ – Call for Abstracts, due early Feb.

o Amy Dailey and Audrey Hess have started to work on a draft of an abstract. Anyone else interested in joining Amy and Audrey in process of writing or presenting? If so, let them (or Camille) know!

o Submission implies being present at meeting, Nov 2-6, 2013 in Boston, MA

o Beth Dixon will help edit and review!

Adams County Gleaning Network update

 Jerry Althoff unable to continue

 Vickie Corbett is willing to head the committee to continue gleaning network

 Weatherization truck from SCCAP is a possibility

 Jerry Althoff, Vickie Corbett, Megan Shreve, Camille will plan to meet soon to figure out logistics

Healthy Options newspaper article

 ACFMA can get the new article out about Healthy Options.

 ACFMA can put the HO article in Feb column (Due Feb 11) and on ACFMA blog.

 Lancaster Farming Newspaper, with state-wide readership, may be willing to publish– Rayna has a contact

 Wellspan Community Benefit Report is another idea for place to publish article.

 Kathy Gaskin will try to see if we can have a longer spread in the Times

Research for Penn State Extension  An ES senior capstone project: How Penn State Extension could better serve outreach/educational needs of Latino farm-workers.

 Catherine Lara of Penn State Extension has been discussing this will LIU

HAC Restaurant Campaign updates

 Carla Snyder and Kathy Gaskin will create a session with restaurant managers and chefs to market healthy options.

 A survey with help of students from Philosophy of Food course at Gettysburg College would seek to know if they would be interested in participating.

 Rayna Cooper and Etta Saltos will help Carla and Kathy Gaskin as well.
