Job Announcement

Job Title: Director of Good Shepherd Lutheran School

Reports to: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Council (hiring and policy) Pastor of GSLC (day to day operations)

Job Description: 1. Develop and administer the educational program of the school within established policies. 2. Oversee budget, records, scheduling, supply ordering, state and church policies, and implement fundraising. 3. Hire, supervise, and terminate if necessary all teachers and aides. 4. Provide oversight for the Child Care program. 5. Recruit and supervise volunteers and substitutes. 6. Promote GSLC School within the congregation and the community

Essential Responsibilities: 1. Review operational policies yearly and make recommendations to the GSLC Council. 2. Review budget balances monthly, communicate with Bookkeeper, and make budgetary adjustments as necessary. 3. Establish procedures with staff for weekly/monthly ordering of supplies. 4. Establish procedures and timelines for yearly enrollment process. 5. Attend and write a progress report for monthly GSLC Council meetings. 6. Write grants and state reports as needed for the school and child care program. 7. Review safety procedures quarterly. 8. Organize monthly staff meetings (or more often if necessary) 9. Conduct performance appraisals of employees following school guidelines. 10. Check in regularly (at least once per week) with GSLC Pastor on church/school operations.

Essential Skills: 1. BA in Education, or equivalent, and experience working with children and teachers. 2. Child Care Division qualified and on at least Step Nine of Oregon Registry. 3. Commitment to a team-oriented process. 4. Ability to communicate with people of different backgrounds and needs. 5. Ability to understand, communicate, and promote the relationship between GSLC and the school.

Additional Preferred Skills/Qualifications: 1. Concurrent membership with GSLC is desirable.

Salary/Compensation: 1. Salary range: $29,000 - $31,000 based on experience paid across 10 or 12 months (Director’s choice). 2. GSLC will not provide pension or health/medical benefits. 3. Director can choose to direct a portion or percentage of base salary into a tax- deferred retirement account.

Employment information: 1. Employment year August 1 – July 31 with yearly contract renewal based on performance review 2. Vacation – 4 weeks per year, non-accumulating 3. Continuing education – 2 weeks per year, non-accumulating 4. Sick leave – 2 weeks per year, non-accumulating 5. Automobile travel allowance at IRS rate, up to $600 per year maximum 6. Expenses for selected meetings as needed and approved.

Working Conditions: 1. Substantial percentage of time will be spent within an office environment. 2. Ability to function physically within a classroom environment. 3. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.

Performance Review Period: The Director will receive a yearly review from the GSLC Council.
