Principal’s News:

• School Registration: Timelines for school registration are expected to be released by the end of February. As we continue to grow, it will be challenging for100% of the students to receive their first choice. With the communication, we will include the dates that changes to the student’s schedules will be accepted. • Instructional Planning: o For the February 17, 2017 teacher planning day, the staff will focus on: (1) common assessments; (2) BYOD (specifically, staff development & “what do I do if I want that in my classroom”; (3) Overall grading practices / grading norms o One of our opportunities for improvement is a consistent curriculum for our core classes. It’s important for us to create the best, consistent curriculum for the students to successfully take the assessment tests. We are currently reviewing midterms to assess how we did as a team. In order for our team to come up with this common curriculum, we will have a scheduled day to plan as a team. During that day, we will bring in subs for their classes. • Media center: Everything has been ordered & we’re hoping for things to come in around March. • District Technology Fund is providing 70 new computers for Landrum. We re- configured the computer labs to make room for the new computers. Although we still need more, these additional computers will allow for less disruptions during testing. The computers are currently getting imaged and should be ready by the next round of testing end of Feb / early March.

Budget Update:

Total Budget: $13,420.26; The difference from last month was for Achieve 3000.

PTO Update:

• The PTO was able to buy additional tickets to the “Teacher of the Year” banquet. These tickets will be for teachers who want to attend and support the winner of the Award. • The PTO also contributed to the Blessings in a Backpack. program. The agency partners with the school to provide food and supplies for identified families. • A new exciting announcement from the PTO is called the Lion’s Den. This was approved by Mrs. Middaugh. We will renovate a corner of the cafeteria and make it a “fun” area designed for kids to enjoy games like foosball or basketball or just spend time with friends. It’ll be another opportunity that teachers can award students or entire classes for good behavior. They may choose to use PBS cards or just pick out kids in the cafeteria line & have them bring a friend. It’s limited to 30 students at a time. • April 23rd 10:00-2:00: Beach Bash: The planning has begun. It’s basically the same format. One change is that the food is getting turned over to some clubs. This will be an opportunity for them to raise money by selling items and keeping the profit for their club.

New Business:

• Open SAC position: One of our members, Hugh Rappa, has had 2 unexcused absences and needs to resign. Landrum will be holding another election to find another parent to apply. We plan on sending information about this within the next week or so. • New request: Mr. Butler is requesting pull down screens in the 8th grade hall for our SIP goals: School Improvement plans. • Annual High School Showcase: Kelly Barrera provided information on the The St. Johns County School District Fifth Annual High School Showcase on Tuesday, January 26. The event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the St. Johns County Convention Center at the World Golf Village. The public is invited to attend. All seven high schools will have their career academies, ROTC programs and acceleration programs on display for eighth and ninth grade parents to view. • School Choice Plan: Kelly Barrera provided information on the school choice program. She shared that PVPV is one of the schools listed having open capacity. More information about the program can be found on the county website. o http://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/coe/wp- content/uploads/sites/122/2017/01/Controlled-Open-Enrollment-Plan.pdf • Request for PTOs to work together: Kelly Barrera would like the PTOs to work together on informing / advertising various events, like the College Event. Often we have great topics and speakers, but low attendance.

Old Business

• The Global Workshop: The Global Workshop inspires students to think critically about science, culture, development, and global interdependence through multimedia performances and exhibits, participatory workshops, & field study programs. There have been a few requests to have Matt Colaciello and this program back to Landrum. His program has a cross curriculum, real world approach to learning. o Next meeting we will vote on having The Global workshop here. Landrum would still do the 3 grade assemblies plus $5,000 for the workshop. • Lynne Jansen Funding: All 44 magazines have been received and are receiving positive feedback. o Quote from Ms Jansen: “I have used SCOPE to read two articles about poachers in Africa that are killing elephants and rhinos to sell their tusks and horns. One of the articles was about using drones to combat the poachers. Comparing texts and citing textual evidence was the focus of the lesson. The students were riveted and it provoked great dialogue about animal rights and the criminal acts that are being committed. Thanks to the SAC Committee for approving the money for these. Ms. O'Brien and Mr. Saball have plans to use them in the near future.” • Achieve 3000: We have125 licenses and they gave an extra 10 licenses. The response is very positive. The kids completed career surveys. Now every time they use the Achieve, they can see where their level is and how it’s moving towards their career goal. The kids get really excited to see their progress.

Adjournment: Erika Marino called for adjournment at 2:52 and Susan seconded the motion. The next meeting of the School Advisory Council will be held in the media center on February 16th, 2017.
