UCD Business eLearning 1. BLOOMBERG MARKET CONCEPTS
1.1 Foundations of Finance
Bloomberg Market Concepts or BMC is an online course that provides an introduction to the financial markets. The course format comprises of 8 hours of teaching videos with interaction through quizzes and end of module tests. The BMC takes you through the basics of what you'll need to know to work in finance.
1.2 Why take the BMC?

At the end of the course you will have gained: Market knowledge the case studies give you useful background information to recent financial events Familiarity with the Bloomberg Terminal this is a good introduction to the Bloomberg Terminal and puts concepts learnt in the BESS into practice Certificate of Completion upon completion of all four modules, you'll be able to download your certificate of completion
1.3 Before you begin
To start the BMC program you will need: Access to a Bloomberg Terminal The BMC is available on the Bloomberg Terminals in the Data Analytics Lab BMC account You will need to create a BMC account which is separate and in addition to your Bloomberg login account The course duration is about 8 hours so take your time and work through the modules systematically

Type BMC into the Command Line in the top left of the Bloomberg window and hit the GO key from the keyboard.
1.5 BMC Homescreen
This is the BMC home screen. The menu items on the left provide additional information about the BMC and I’d advise you to read each section before you start to get an overview of the course and the learning outcomes.

You will need to create a BMC account which is separate and in addition to your Bloomberg one. Click SIGN UP to create your BMC account.
1.7 Enter name
Enter your details in the relevant fields: Your First Name, and your Surname.

Enter your email details, you can use your UCD email account.
1.9 Enter Password
Enter your BMC account password, it must contain 8 characters including at least one letter and one number

Tick the Terms of Service checkbox Hit SIGN UP once you have entered your details, you will be sent an email with instructions and prompted to LOGIN to the BMC
1.11 Login
Once your account has been set-up, click the login link from the BMC home screen and enter your account details. Then click the Login button

2.1 Access Course
Once your logged in, click access course to begin.
2.2 Open in Browser
Click on Desktop to open the BMC in a web browser window from the Display Options panel.

This is the BMC homescreen. To the left are menu items that link to the different sections The four modules are listed: Ecomonic Indicators, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities
2.4 Module Content
The module content items in each section appear below the Content section home screen, click to access the content, in this case an introduction video.

Once the content has been viewed, click close to return to the module section home screen.
2.6 Menu bar
To return to the BMC homescreen in order to access other sections, roll over the meun icon in the top left of the window

The BMC Course Page link will appear. Click to return to the main menu
2.8 Economic Indicators
To start a module, click on the relevant module heading, in this case Economic Indicators

You will see the specific content of the module from the section home screen You will see that certain sections have been locked, You can only access later sections of a BMC module once you have viewed or completed previous sections Click on the first module content item to begin
2.10 Written transcript
You can check your progress through the module, and you can also click for a written transcript from the video

At certain sections of the module you will be asked to interact by answering questions relating to the information presented. Follow any on screen instructions, in this case click to view the chart.
2.12 Submit answer
Select your answer or response. Submit you answer by clicking the forward arrow.

When you get to end of a section you will be asked a series of questions based on the information presented.
2.14 Select Answer
Select your answer from the options

Submit your answer by by clicking the forward arrow
2.16 Section content
You will see the status of the content sections has changed, a green tick indicates you have completed a section and the previously locked section is now available.

The BMC will bookmark your progress, you can sign out and re-join at any time

Login to the BMC as before, click on the module you are taking
2.20 Resume the BMC
Resume the module where you left off

You don’t have to start with the first listed module, access a particular area of interest by clicking on that link.
2.22 Access module sections
In some modules you will need to scroll for content sections.

Access this content by clicking the direction arrows in the content bar.
2.24 BMC Course page
Click the BMC Course Page to return to the main menu

The certificate of completion is only awarded once you have completed all four BMC modules, so take your time and work through each individual module. You can sign out of a BMC session at any time, you can re-join again where you left off last time.
