Inspections and maintenance are required to achieve the intended function, benefits, and life of the practice. The landowner/operator is responsible to establish and implement an inspection and maintenance program. Items to inspect and maintain during the 10-year design life of the practice include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Inspect after significant storm events and at least annually to identify repair and maintenance needs.

2. Fill areas where settlement may adversely affect drainage and land use.

3. Promptly repair and re-vegetate bare spots and eroded areas.

4. Add soil amendments to soils that cannot support adequate vegetation or replace them with suitable soil material.

5. Maintain access roads.

6. Keep drainage structures and channels clean and functional.

7. Apply fertilizer and lime as appropriate to maintain vigorous vegetation.

8. Control weeds.

9. Implement proper grazing practices, where appropriate.

10. Control vehicular traffic.

11. Operate mowing and other equipment on slopes in accordance with machinery operation manual.
