Animal Phylum/Class/Order

Vertebrate Order Flip-Book Goal: You will research one group of animals. You will become an expert in your field and make an informational flipbook explaining your animal group.

Project: The following information needs to be in your flipbook. The format for the pages is also included below. Tab of page should have a title of topic on page. We will spend one day in the library. The rest of the research and making the flipbook will be done at home.

Page 1 – Classification – Kingdom, Phylum, Class and Order and common names. Also (You can be creative and cut the book to the shape of an animal in your group or another shape) (4 points)

Page 2 – References – at least 2 in MLA format (4 points)

Page 3 – Characteristics – What characteristics do all of the animals in this order share? Some can be characteristics of the class, but most should be characteristics of the order. Be sure to include symmetry, movement, and body plan. (8 points)

Page 4 – Examples of animals in your order- at least 5, including pictures. Label with Genus and species, along with common names. How many species are found in this order? (5 points)

Page 5– How do they reproduce? Internal or external fertilization, mating time periods, choice of mate, gestation period, # young, parental care (if applicable) (6 points)

Page 6 – What biome or biomes would animals in this order live in? Describe their habitat and diet. How do they feed or take in nutrients? What is their niche in the ecosystem in which they live? Discuss any adaptations that allow them to succeed in their habitat and niche. (8 points)

Page 7 – What organ systems do they have? Explain how they work. Be sure to include circulatory, respiratory, excretory and nervous systems. Any specialization in the group should be highlighted. (10 points)

Page 8 – Choose one unique or interesting animal species in your group. Include the scientific and common name. Describe characteristics of this animal. What is unique? Why did you choose this animal? Include picture or two! (5 points)
