As humans, our access to underwater sonic realms is modulated by means fl eshy and technological. Bones, endolymph fl uid, cilia, hydrophones, and sonar equipment are just a few apparatuses that bring watery sounds into human audio worlds. As this list sug- gests, the media through which humans hear sound under water can reach from the scale of the singular biological body up through the socially distributed and techno- logically tuned-in community. For the social scale, which is peopled by submari- ners, physical oceanographers, marine biologists, and others, the underwater world —and the undersea world in particular — often emerge as a “fi eld” (a wildish, distributed space for investigation) and occasionally as a “lab” (a contained place for controlled experiments). In this chapter I investigate the ways the underwater realm manifests as such a scientifi cally, technologically, and epistemologically apprehensible zone. -

Adventures in Film Music Redux Composer Profiles
Adventures in Film Music Redux - Composer Profiles ADVENTURES IN FILM MUSIC REDUX COMPOSER PROFILES A. R. RAHMAN Elizabeth: The Golden Age A.R. Rahman, in full Allah Rakha Rahman, original name A.S. Dileep Kumar, (born January 6, 1966, Madras [now Chennai], India), Indian composer whose extensive body of work for film and stage earned him the nickname “the Mozart of Madras.” Rahman continued his work for the screen, scoring films for Bollywood and, increasingly, Hollywood. He contributed a song to the soundtrack of Spike Lee’s Inside Man (2006) and co- wrote the score for Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). However, his true breakthrough to Western audiences came with Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches saga Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Rahman’s score, which captured the frenzied pace of life in Mumbai’s underclass, dominated the awards circuit in 2009. He collected a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for best music as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for best score. He also won the Academy Award for best song for “Jai Ho,” a Latin-infused dance track that accompanied the film’s closing Bollywood-style dance number. Rahman’s streak continued at the Grammy Awards in 2010, where he collected the prize for best soundtrack and “Jai Ho” was again honoured as best song appearing on a soundtrack. Rahman’s later notable scores included those for the films 127 Hours (2010)—for which he received another Academy Award nomination—and the Hindi-language movies Rockstar (2011), Raanjhanaa (2013), Highway (2014), and Beyond the Clouds (2017). -

Flight of the Navigator Digital Booklet
……uly 4th, 1978 and silver saucers sail over the Miami skyline. J…… For young David Freeman (Joey Cramer), the day began like any other holiday with a family outing at the park and a frisbee pet catching contest (Main Title). His disappointment with his dog Bruiser's inability to perform is compounded only by the further taunts of his irascible kid brother, Jeff. That night, David is told to escort his younger brother home from a friend's house (David In The Woods). David accidentally falls into a ravine, knocking himself out. When he awakens, David is terrified to discover his family no longer living at the house. In fact, the house has been entirely redecorated. Taken to the police station, the officer in charge discovers David has been declared legally dead! Eventually the boy is taken to a house where he is reunited with his mother (Veronica Cartwright) and father (Cliff DeYoung), only to discover that they're much older than when he saw them only hours before. Meanwhile, NASA scientist Lewis Faraday (Howard Hesseman) discovers an alien spacecraft, seemingly floating as if lighter than air, entangled in a high tension tower. He orders it taken away to the space center (Transporting The Ship). David is taken to a hospital for tests where he meets his “little” brother, Jeff, who now appears several years older than himself. Jeff reveals that it's 8 years later from the night David fell into the ravine. That night as the silver vehicle is being examined in a NASA hanger, David hears a voice calling out to him. -
