DIVISION - TO SHARE OR TO GROUP – THAT IS THE QUESTION

Course Description This course will provide teachers with the opportunity to take a detailed look at how the learning and teaching of division develops over the course of the primary phase and to consider ways in which misconceptions can provide a barrier to progress. The difference between division as sharing and division as grouping will be examined and strategies for the development of children’s ability to divide using both sharing and grouping from EYFS to upper key stage two will be explored. The importance of teaching division alongside multiplication will be considered and the development of mental and written division strategies will be explored, highlighting the importance of children’s ability to work fluently across all four operations. Course Outcomes  To develop teachers’ knowledge and understanding of progression in the development of children’s knowledge, skills and understanding of division.  To develop teachers’ awareness of progression in the development of mental and written division strategies.  To develop teachers’ understanding of the links between multiplication and division.

Cost £60 or £110** if booking together with AM course ‘Algebra – It’s Not Just For Year Six’ (to include all refreshments - and lunch if attending both AM and PM courses) **We offer a 10% Early Bird Discount rate for full day and half day course bookings made more than four weeks prior to a course date.
