Position Title: Development Director FLSA Status: Exempt Office: La Crosse Outreach Center (works in both La Crosse & Trempealeau Co.) Date of Review: January 26, 2018
Summary:
The Development Director is responsible for securing financial resources through grants, appeals, and annual fundraising events, which will support the organization’s programs and services. The Development Director is responsible for helping to build and manage the organization’s brand and all aspects of marketing communications in order to raise awareness of the organization. The Development Director will set the organization’s strategic fundraising agenda in coordination with the Executive Director. The Development Director reports directly to the Executive Director.

Embracement of the mission of New Horizons Exemplifies a collaborative, decisive, motivating and engaging communication style Self-starter and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls Displays a positive attitude, shows concern for people and community and demonstrates self-confidence A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with communications/publications and fund development Experience with website and newsletter production and message development Working mastery of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft word, Power Point and Excel Persuasive writing and strong verbal communication skills Strong relationship building and solicitation skills Extreme tack and discretion, attention to detail and commitment to excellence Strong organizational skills, well disciplined, able to work under pressure of many priorities and meet deadlines Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Ability to work with diverse individuals and balance a variety of needs Experienced and comfortable with public speaking
Hours:
The ability to work flexible hours is necessary. The majority of hours are to be worked Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work evening and weekends as directed by program needs. Working more than 40 hours per week may be required for this salaried, full time position. Essential Duties
Fund Development:
Oversee grant seeking in coordination with the Executive Director Responsible for writing and submitting new and renewed grants and reports Assure appropriate recognition and acknowledgement is given to all foundation, corporate and private donors Monitor and enter all donor information into data base Evaluate solicitation strategies and provide analysis to the Executive Director Develops calendars, plans and marketing material for fundraising events and appeals with input of the Executive Director Responsible managing and promoting annual fundraising events Directs the production of annual fundraising events and appeals Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities Develop and implement a cost-effective major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors in coordination with the Executive Director Develop and implement specific campaigns for tax-credits, planned giving i.e. deferred gifts such as bequest expectations, charitable trusts, endowments and development projects in coordination with the Executive Director Responsible for organization’s involvement in third party fundraising events Direct the organization’s employee campaign for Great Rivers United Way
Communications:
Develop and produce a quarterly newsletter with input from of the Executive Director and other personnel Create, write, edit and produce press releases and publications related to the fund development program Develop and produce the organization’s annual report in coordination with the Executive Director Develop and implement cost-effective marketing and outreach strategies to communicate with a range of constituencies through printed and electronic media Update and maintain the organization’s website, on-line publications and social media with informative information on the organization’s programs, statistics, needs and awareness with input of the Executive Director Assists in public and media events while begin conscious and protective of the integrity and purpose of the organization Assists in the editing of organization’s program and service brochures, flyers and posters
Other Responsibilities and requirements:
Has reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance Attends organizational meetings including but not limited to monthly Full Team meetings Is committed to professional development and attends trainings as approved by the Executive Director Maintains a clean, organized and comfortable environment within the organization Trains and supervisors volunteers as appropriate Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in an office and/or business setting but is not limited to the organization’s buildings. Constant interpersonal interactions and frequent changes in duties, tasks and circumstances occur in this position.
