DO YOU WANT TO HELP SAVE OUR LIBRARY?

Residents will probably be aware that Leicestershire County Council has made significant cuts to its Library Service. They will continue to manage the 16 most-used libraries, and support community groups to manage the 36 other libraries, including Kirby Muxloe Library. If no community group comes forward, the library is likely to close.

For all 36 libraries, community groups have now come forward. The first of these libraries will transfer to the community by the end of July.

In Kirby Muxloe, the Parish Council had hoped to be able to manage the library. It has now become clear that, for legal reasons, we are currently not able to run the library directly. We will however still be able to support a community-managed library in many ways.

Our plan is to form a new Community Group to manage the library with our support. We will need a range of volunteers to come forward. We will need: - people that are happy to be involved in aspects of the management of the library; - people that can help by organising activities, ie reading groups, coffee mornings etc; - people that can help out with checking in/out books etc.

If you value your library and want it to stay open, now is the time to come forward and get involved.
