BUCKY WOODALL OF 12 WHITNEY, IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY, ON BEING 13 RECOGNIZED BY THE GOVERNOR’S COMMITTEE ON 14 THE EMPLOYMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AS 15 AN EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR IN THE SMALL BUSINESS 16 CATEGORY. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were 19 pleased to learn that Mr. Bucky Woodall of Whitney, in 20 Spartanburg County, was recognized in a ceremony in Columbia 21 on May 17, 2013, by the Governor’s Committee on Employment 22 of People with Disabilities as an employee of the year in the small 23 business category; and 24 25 Whereas, Bucky, age twentyfive, who was enrolled in the South 26 Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, got his first job two years 27 ago at Firehouse Subs with the assistance of the local South 28 Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center, which trains and 29 matches up persons with disabilities with area employers; and 30 31 Whereas, Dana Rolin, Vocational Rehabilitation job coach, who 32 nominated Bucky for the state award, notes that Bucky is a delight 33 to work with, has never met a stranger, radiates extraordinary 34 energy and is “a joy to know”; and 35 36 Whereas, as he works at Firehouse Subs in Boiling Springs, where 37 he performs multiple tasks essential for the restaurant’s successful 38 operation, including taking on the persona of the restaurant’s 39 mascot “Sparky” and dancing and twirling a sign in front of the 40 store in a Dalmatian mask and fireman’s coat; and 41

[4170] 2 1 Whereas, Woodall relates that “I like my job. It’s special to me.” 2 His managers say he is never late, always works hard, and keeps a 3 positive attitude and Mr. Omar Ghorbani, owner of Firehouse Subs 4 of Spartanburg, notes that “he’s an inspiration to our team .... 5 cheerful in all weathers .... very positive .... has an outstanding 6 attitude”; and 7 8 Whereas, with himself having multiple developmental disabilities, 9 Bucky helps with fundraising for Special Olympics, in which he 10 has twice competed, learned sign language during his time at the 11 South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind and regularly serves 12 as a translator, was part of the Working Wheels program at 13 Wofford College and while at the School for the Deaf and Blind 14 earned its Most Outstanding Student Award Scholarship, served in 15 the color guard, and the Hopping Hornets jump rope team, all 16 while mentoring younger students; and 17 18 Whereas, he also serves as a volunteer for the Whitney Fire 19 Department by helping firefighters with essential tasks around the 20 station, attends Restoration Church, loves music, fishing, hunting, 21 and motorcycles; and 22 23 Whereas, his advice to those dealing with disabilities is short but 24 profound “It’s worth trying. Make yourself happy; be somebody 25 who cares. Know that you can do things. If you say you can’t, 26 then you won’t. At least give it a shot and give it all your best.”; 27 and 28 29 Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the House of 30 Representatives to pause in their deliberations to express their 31 congratulations to this outstanding young South Carolinian on his 32 recognition by the Governor’s Committee on the Employment of 33 People With Disabilities. Now, therefore, 34 35 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 36 37 That the members of the House of Representatives, by this 38 resolution, congratulate Mr. Bucky Woodall of Whitney, in 39 Spartanburg County, on being recognized by the Governor’s 40 Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities as an 41 employee of the year in the small business category. 42
