Position Description

Position: Cook FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Nutrition Services Updated: 10/2013

Job Category: Cook

Position Summary: Prepare, package, and serve food in accordance with menus and recipes written and approved by Regional Dietitian and IDA Dietitian and following all food safety regulations.

The following responsibilities are representative of recurring tasks. These are not to be construed as exclusive or inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. These responsibilities must be performed satisfactorily with or without accommodation.

Position Responsibilities: • Ordering/purchasing raw food necessary to meet program requirements while maintaining cost controls •Follow the report process: Site reports, sign-in logs, daily meal count, NAPIS, Performance Reports and Volunteer Sheets, invoices, reservations, home delivered meal route sheets, rosters, etc. •Menu reporting and recording •Preparing meals in a timely manner using standardized recipes •Maintain daily statistical log of all meals prepared and served •Properly package and date leftover food •Organize and prepare the following days menu, anticipating future preparation of food •Oversee volunteers •Responsible for cleaning kitchen and appliances •Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained in good operating condition. Notify the Director of Nutrition Services when repairs are necessary •Maintain a safe and sanitary work place. Train staff/volunteers in safety and sanitation techniques. •Maintain attentive control over store room and stock •Check refrigeration units on a daily basis for proper cooling temperatures •Annual inventories of food & equipment •Oversee the transportation of meals to satellites and home delivery volunteers and stipend mileage persons. Oversee activities at the meal site Assist satellite sites as needed •Maintain security of unit •Regular attendance as scheduled

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: • Effective oral communication skills  Excellent customer service and problem solving skills  Ability to organize and establish and maintain an efficient, orderly kitchen  Ability to prepare meals; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and other staff  Basic mathematical skills to determine correct weight and measurement  Ability to work independently

Required Qualifications: • High school graduate or GED • Three years’ experience in industrial/commercial food service required

Physical Demands: • Reach 16-18” to retrieve racks and food from shelving units  Use frequently daily kitchen utensils and equipment • Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds • Occasionally lift objects up to 40 pounds, • Regularly required clean kitchen and dining areas typically using broom and mop and other cleaning supplies

Work Environment:  Kitchen and Dining Area
