TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR RAF CRESTA ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Chairman

1. The Association Chairman is appointed by the Chairman of RAF Sports. He is responsible for the efficient administration and organisation of the RAF Cresta for the benefit of Members, in accordance with the Constitution. The Chairman is also responsible to the Chairman of RAF Sports for the safe conduct of RAF Cresta activities. In particular, he is to:

a. Promote the sport of Cresta within the RAF, identifying and developing opportunities to encourage Service participation in Cresta.

b. Develop and maintain a suitable safety management system for RAF Cresta, and act as RAF Cresta’s senior supervisor and ‘Responsible Person’.

c. Maintain, in consultation with the Captain, a record of each rider’s qualifications and experience.

d. Develop close working relationships with the RAF Sports secretariat and the RAF Winter Sports Federation, keeping them advised of matters which may affect the well-being of RAF Cresta.

e. Supervise the routine work of the RAF Cresta Committee.

f. Provide advice to the relevant Service sports bodies on the organisation and administration of RAF and Inter-Services Cresta.

g. Develop ideas and foster good relations with the St Moritz Tobogganing Club, keeping the Club informed of Service intentions and aspirations where appropriate.

h. Develop ideas and foster good relations with the other Service Cresta Squads, and with the sponsors and supporters of RAF Cresta.

i. Encourage favourable internal publicity for Cresta in the RAF and the Combined Services’ environments, and encourage favourable external publicity for the RAF and the Combined Services as part of their participation in Cresta.

j. Review the RAF Cresta committee members’ TOR prior to each AGM.

k. Ensure that an Annual Report is prepared.

l. Recommend the award of RAF representative Colours.

Committee Members

2. Committee Members will be nominated by the Chairman, in consultation with the Captain (once nominated), and confirmed at the AGM. They will be expected to assist in any of the duties associated with RAF Cresta at the request of the Chairman.

Captain/Training Member

3. The Chairman may elect to fill the role of Captain himself. If not, the Captain is responsible to the Chairman for all aspects of safety and training for RAF Cresta. The

1 Captain is to undertake the day-to-day organisation of the Squad in St Moritz and routine organisational tasks, as allocated by the Chairman, throughout the year. He is to:

a. Ensure that RAF Cresta Members adhere to the RAF Cresta Safety Management Plan and to the rules of the St. Moritz Toboggan Club.

b. Advise the Chairman on all aspects of safety management and supervision of RAF Cresta riding.

c. Encourage and train new RAF Cresta Squad members to participate, and reach a competent standard, in every aspect of Cresta riding.

d. Develop the riding standard of experienced riders and encourage them to reach a high level of proficiency in every aspect of Cresta riding.

e. Oversee the training and selection of the RAF Cresta Team for the Inter- Services Championship.

f. Develop ideas and foster good relations with the other Service Cresta Squads, the St Moritz Tobogganing Club, and with sponsors and supporters of RAF Cresta, coordinating these activities with the Chairman.

Secretary

4. The secretary is responsible to the Chairman. He is to:

a. Develop, in consultation with the Treasurer and Equipment Member, a 5-year plan for RAF Cresta which will inform RAF Sports funding plans.

b. Maintain a current list of all Members (Full, Associate and Honorary) of RAF Cresta, together with their contact details. These are to be distributed to all RAF Cresta Members.

c. Develop ideas and foster good relations with the other Service Cresta Squads, the St Moritz Tobogganing Club, and with sponsors and supporters of RAF Cresta, coordinating these activities with the Chairman.

d. Undertake routine correspondence and administration for RAF Cresta.

e. Assist as required in the preparation of the Annual Report.

Treasurer

5. The Treasurer is responsible to the Chairman. He is to:

a. Manage the RAF Cresta funds in accordance with Non-Public Accounting Regulations, liaising closely with RAF Sports, the RAF Winter Sports Federation, and other organisations as required.

b. Lodge the RAF Cresta funds in an appropriate bank account in the name of RAF Cresta, or as directed by any future changes to accounting regulations.

c. Present a balance sheet (in draft if necessary) to the RAF Cresta Committee at least 14 days before each AGM/EGM.

2 d. Forward completed accounts (in draft if necessary) to RAF Sports bodies as required by those bodies.

e. Ensure that receipts for expenses are received from Cresta Members who have been delegated duties, within 30 days of the end of Inter-Services Championship.

f. Advise the Committee on the implications of any proposed expenditure.

g. Assist the Secretary to develop and maintain the 5-year plan.

h. Advise the Chairman immediately of any difficulties in the fund management.

Equipment Member

6. The Equipment Member is responsible to the Chairman. He is to:

a. Ensure that all equipment is fit for purpose and is maintained to a suitable standard for safe riding.

b. Maintain an equipment record, which includes records of usage and maintenance.

c. Oversee the storage and allocation of all RAF Cresta equipment and clothing, including the issue and return of equipment and clothing for individual use.

d. Advise the Committee of any equipment shortfalls or deficiencies that may affect training or competition success.

e. Assist the Secretary to develop and maintain the 5-year plan.

Annual Squad Selection

7. RAF Squad selection will be undertaken by the Chairman, in consultation with the Captain and other Committee members.

a. Current RAF Squad Members. Consideration of current RAF Squad Members for re-selection to the new Squad will be based on their current RAF Squad performance and overall contribution to RAF Cresta. The aim is to select 10 experienced riders each season (or more if possible, subject to available funds).

b. New RAF Squad Members. Consideration of candidates to the RAF Squad will be based on recommendations from existing and past RAF Squad Members which, in the case of ‘unknown’ applicants, will be based on personal interview by current Members. The aim is to select 2-3 novice riders for each season (or more if possible, subject to available funds).

8. In selecting the Squad, the Chairman (and Committee) will take into account not only the individual’s skill, but also his willingness to make himself available as and when called, his willingness to make a long-term commitment to RAF Cresta, his ability to fit into the Squad and his general temperament, deportment and personal standards.
