Phase One – Designing and Planning an Adventure Training Operation based at Marthwaite Foot

1. Course design for day and week activities in the following adventurous training pursuits:

 Fell-walking and running

 Fell camping and living in the field under self-sufficient, tent conditions in the field

 Canoeing and Kayaking – on the River Rawthey, and other rivers and lakes within the YDNC

 Sailing – at Killington lake

 Pony-trekking – in association with the stables manager

 Mountain-biking

 Pot-holing

 Sports diving

 Fishing

 Rock-climbing, top-roping and abseiling

2. Identify locations where all of these activities might be conducted, wherever possible within the National Park.

3. Design courses and write course programmes for these activities to be conducted safely, at all levels of ability.

4. Identify and select a team of suitably qualified instructors, and induct them into the BJC ethos ensuring their competence meets the statutory requirement, and they are suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.

5. Write safe operating procedures and risk assessments for all these activities.

6. Produce lists of kit and resources needed to run these activities, and recommend which should be purchased and which might be hired or co-used with other providers.

7. Manage a delegated budget and account for it with a monthly financial management report.

8. Report to the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, and attend whatsoever regular meetings he chooses to convene.

Phase Two – Operating and Adventure Training Enterprise 1. Work with the BJC UK marketing director to advertise the operation and increase awareness amongst potential customers, and within the National Park tourist authorities.

2. Manage, train, discipline and lead any adventure training staff who are employed to deliver the training. (You are not expected to be an expert, or be qualified in all these activities).

3. Contact schools and colleges, particularly those with active Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme groups. In particular, cultivate the staff at Schools in the North West.

4. Control and husband the kit and equipment necessary to deliver the courses, and be responsible for its safety and serviceability.

5. Be responsible for the conduct and safety of all children and young persons who engage in the training, at all times.

6. Participate in any activities organised to help with the rehabilitation and training of veterans and ex-emergency workers with whom BJC UK becomes engaged as part of its social responsibility programme.

7. Produce the working budget and be overall responsible for the budgeting of the enterprise, with assistance of other BJC UK staff.

8. Integrate with and support the other parts of the BJC UK operation, in particular agriculture.

9. Develop an ethos of affection and respect within customers and staff for the National Park and its people in all the activities the Adventure Training Enterprise undertakes.

10. Review and develop the activities on a three month rolling basis, and report your recommendations to the MD.
