UNT Parent Association Regular General Meeting Minutes April 30, 2011

The general meeting of the UNT Parent Association was called to order at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the UNT Alumni Center, University of North Texas, Denton, Texas with President Brian Richman presiding and Secretary Colleen M. Schiebold present. Officers' reports: The President stated that summer orientation is beginning to ‘ramp up’ and the schedule will be a three day event each session. He provided details on the schedule of events and described the anticipated role that volunteer parents could assume if slated to work on any of those days. He said the Vice President was responsible for assigning volunteer opportunities and information was provided at the registration table. The Parliamentarian made a plea for members to consider running for the position of Parliamentarian for the upcoming school year. She is currently creating a packet of reference materials and reiterated that the elected position was not a difficult one. The Treasurer’s report was presented by Jaime Blanton on behalf of Stacy Robinson. She stated that the because of the move of monies of approximately $25,000 from reserve to endowment (per Feb 26, 2011 meeting) scholarship opportunities were greatly increased. 59 $500 draw scholarships will be awarded at today’s meeting. Merchandise sales have diminished mostly due to time of year and it is anticipated that sales will increase in the summer. An error on the treasurer’s report shows an encumbered expense for box stickers as .95 per sheet. Actual cost was .095 each. This will be corrected on the treasurer’s report and filed. The report showed a beginning balance of $48,379, $57,809.31 in receipts, $50,359.41 in disbursements and an ending balance of $7,449.90 as of April 26, 2011. Jaime Blanton provided an accounting of the current status of the University. She stated that the UNT President’s report projects student enrollment to increase by 25% with targeted growth of 4% per year. This will be achieved through new enrollments and retention and targeting high achieving freshmen. There is a tuition increase for the Fall 2011-2012 school year that was outlined in the April Parent Association newsletter and is also available on the UNT home page web link. The increase helps fund the Student Union renovation as well as program operations, faculty hirings etc. She also explained that there is consideration for a reduced rate advance purchase for family weekend but regardless hope to maintain current price structure. The new stadium is scheduled to open July 15 and the first home game is September 10. New Business: Jaime Blanton provided a cost benefit analysis of the current PA merchandise. UNT is rebranding all items from ‘North Texas’ to ‘UNT’. She recommended that the PA adopt a more modern design that meets the current branding requirements. The afghan can no longer be sold with the University seal as it is now reserved for the UNT President. The current inventory of decals with the old logo can be sold until depleted. Set a discounted price for current sized inventory Motion: Moved by Colleen M. Schiebold that the T-shirt will be discounted to $8.00 and the sweatshirt to $15 (excludes discounting the polo and fleece jacket). Motion was debated, seconded and carried. It was noted that the minutes may be reviewed at a later time for further reductions Change inventory item Motion: Moved by Colleen M. Schiebold that the sweatshirt be changed to a green long sleeved t-shirt Motion was debated, seconded and carried. Determine color and type for parent shirt Motion: Moved by Colleen M. Schiebold that a charcoal colored t-shirt with white and green lettering and use of capital letters M and D for Mom and Dad respectively be accepted. Motion was debated, seconded and carried. 59 scholarships plus 5 alternates were drawn by members present at the meeting.
