Q. Will the phone number for labour ward remain the same?

The phone number the public calls for labour ward will be the same but automatically will be diverted to the Centre for Women’s Health when the maternity service has transferred across there..

Q. If I have appointments for the antenatal assessment clinic how does the move to CWH affect me?

The antenatal assessment unit will be open in Heavitree on Friday 15 June and will reopen on Monday 18 June at the Wonford site in the Centre for Women’s Health. The midwives will ensure that your appointment is made for the date required.

Q. I am pregnant and can’t feel my baby moving where do I go to get this checked out? Contact the labour ward team who will be able to advise you further.

Q. What happens if I go into labour on the eve (Thursday 14 June) of the day when maternity services move from Heavitree to Wonford on Friday 15 June?

All women to attend Heavitree until 8am on Friday 15 June. After 8am please contact the labour ward or your community midwife who will advise you of when and where to attend. Maternity services have planned for double staffing on the 15 to run both the Heavitree site and Centre for Women’s Health if needed.

Q. My baby is overdue how will I know whether to come in to Heavitree or Wonford to be induced?

Your community midwife or the antenatal clinic team will discuss plans for your induction of labour and advise you of when and where to attend.

Q. When will planned caesareans no longer be done at Heavitree and when will they start to be carried out at Wonford?

Planned caesarean sections could be performed at the Centre for Women’s Health on Friday 15 June if needed.

Q. When do antenatal clinic appointments start running from the CWH at Wonford?

The antenatal clinic will open on the Wonford site at the CWH from Tuesday 19 June.

Q. I would like to use the birthing pool – when is that going to be available in the new centre?

There is a birthing pool available on the labour ward within the Centre for womens health which will be available for use immediately. There are also plans for an additional birth pool within the midwife led birthing unit which is due to open in the autumn.

Q. What will happen on the day of the move? Doubled staffing has been planned for the maternity services. Women will be admitted in labour after 8am to the new unit. Women who remain within the Heavitree site ion labour will have all care available to them. Women who are inpatients on the antenatal postnatal wards will be discharged or transferred to the centre for women’s health on Friday 15 June
